FOUR & MORE: Best Inland Area Hoops Duos
1. Jordan Daniels and Byron Wesley, Rancho Cucamonga Etiwanda — This duo combines to average 30.8 points per game for a team with CIF-State title aspirations. Daniels (5-foot-9, 150 pounds) scored a personal-best 22 points as the Eagles defeated Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011. Wesley (6-5, 200) has been lighting up opponents all year. The USC-bound swingman averages 18.8 ppg, and has scored 20 points eight times this season.
2. Gelaun Wheelwright and Michael Caffey, Corona Centennial — This lightning-quick backcourt averages 34.8 points per game for a team stocked with NCAA Division I talent. Wheelwright (6-0, 170), a MaxPreps.com Top 100 player, scores better than 16 points per game and has committed to Weber State. Caffey (5-11, 170), also a MaxPreps.com Top 100 player, pours in more than 18 ppg and has committed to Long Beach State.
3. Austin Quick and Justin Gudger, Murrieta Valley — This inside-outside duo is aptly named: quick and gudger. Quick (6-3, 160) paces coach Steve Tarabilda’s motion offense, averaging more than 14 points, four assists and four rebounds per game. Gudger (6-4, 210), the reigning CIF Division 2-AA Player of the Year, averages 20.1 ppg (13.5 ppg in the paint) and has scored more than 20 points 11 times this season.
4. Montigo Alford and Dorian Cason, Fontana Summit — The finest senior class is Summit’s brief seven-year history is also its most experienced. Alford (5-9, 165) excels in two sports, averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 assists per game just one month after helping the SkyHawks, as the team’s starting running back, to CIF Eastern Division title game in football. Cason (6-8, 208), headed to Portland State on a scholly, has polished his game, and is averaging a double-double (14.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg) thus far.
AND MORE: Terrell Todd and Paulin Mpawe, Redlands East Valley — As dynamic a pairing as has ever hit a hardcourt in Mentone Beach. Todd (5-11, 175) is averaging 21.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for the Wildcats, who are posting consistent victories, including a season sweep of cross-town rival Redlands. Mpawe (6-9, 195) has been a force in the low block and in making scouts drool, averaging 14.6 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game.
