Inland Area Prep Baseball Top 10
1. Riverside North (27-7) — The Huskies rode a wave of unexpected success all the way to a CIF-Southern Section Division 1 championship — the first for a Riverside County school since North accomplished the feat in the early 1990s.
LAST RANKED: Not Ranked. LAST GAME: def. Anaheim Esperanza, 7-1, in the CIF-SS D1 title game on June 3, 2011.
2. Redlands (24-5) — The Terriers took a bite out of a Citrus Belt League title with a potent offense, scoring more than 15 runs in a game six times this season and exhalting in a 17-1 mauling of Bellflower in the first round of the CIF-SS D2 playoffs. Indeed an offensive force, Redlands scored 240 runs in 2011, second only to No. 6 Yucaipa (249) among Inland Area schools.
LAST RANKED: No. 10. LAST GAME: lost to No. 4 Rancho Cucamonga Etiwanda, 3-2, in a CIF-SS D2 quarterfinal game on May 27, 2011.
3. Vista Murrieta (22-6) — The Broncos did their best to match the success of the school’s football and track and field teams, running away with their third Southwestern League league title in six seasons. Coach Kurt Ruth’s team was as balanced as any in the Inland Area, with a team BA of .322 and a team ERA of 2.86.

5. Rancho Cucamonga Etiwanda (18-12) — The Eagles surprised most everyone. A 6-9 wild card from the Baseline League advancing all the way to the CIF-SS D2 title game? C’mon. But coach Don Furnald’s team did it, led by senior P/INF Justin Broussard (team-leading 20 RBI and 63Ks in 58.2 IP).

6. Woodcrest Christian (21-3) — The Royals were again unbeaten in the Ambassador League (14-0) but were unable to achieve back-to-back titles after losing at home in the second round of the CIF-SS D5 playoffs. Considering what Woodcrest Christian achieved in 2010, did motivating a champion prove beyond the grasp of coach Glenn Prater and his staff?

7. Yucaipa (23-7) — The Thunderbirds produced another fine season but could not find magic in a bottle like they did in 2010, when then-senior left-hander Tejuan Walker carried coach Jeff Stout’s team to a section title game. Offense led the way for Yucaipa in ’11, with 10 players producing 10-or-more RBI.
