FOUR & MORE: Best League Games

1. Riverside North at Corona Centennial on Oct. 7 — Riverside’s Huskies are contenders in the Big VIII for the first time this century, and this game should prove how far Mark Paredes’ offense has risen. Corona’s Huskies aren’t the same team they’ve been recently, and this game should prove how far Matt Logan’s offense has fallen.

2. Vista Murrieta at Temecula Chaparral on Oct. 21 — The Broncos are still the class of the Southwestern League, and like the Pumas, are undergoing radical change this season. The Derrick Brown Era is over at Vista. The 3-year starter at QB (and two-time CIF finalist) is now at Univ. of Colorado. The Tommy Leach Saga has passed at Chaparral. The mercurial coach is now an assistant at Norco.

3. Rancho Cucamonga at Upland on Oct. 21 — The Cougars and Highlanders are both unbeaten thus far, so this game once again sets up as a pseudo Baseline League championship. That is, unless Etiwanda or Los Osos having something to say about it.

4. Riverside La Sierra vs. Moreno Valley Rancho Verde on Oct. 14 — The Eagles are hot under new coach Mark Recktenwald, and might just have the offensive talent (QB Johnny Salazar & RB Noel Quinones) to challenge the Mustangs, and their death grip on the Inland Valley League.

AND MORE: Redlands East Valley at Yucaipa on Nov. 10 — The Wildcats are as strong as they’ve ever been under Coach Kurt Bruich, and are odds on favorite to win the Citrus Belt League. The Thunderbirds and their new QB, Clayton Leach-Mead, are soaring and scoring, averaging close to 45 points per game through Week 4.
