Season Preview: Inland Valley League

PREP FOOTBALL 2019
INLAND VALLEY LEAGUE PREVIEW

(2018 records in parenthesis)

Get ready for people to start looking at Orange Vista like the Coyotes are the next big thing. Ex-NFL brothers Greg and Eric Zomalt are back coaching together for the first time in 3-4 years, and it’s about to be a quick ascent up the CIF-Southern Section rankings for last season’s CIF-SS D-13 runner-up. Riverside North always has talent and this year is no different, except this year Dennis Brown is back to coach so there’s good continuity there. Riverside Poly will have a re-vamped coaching staff and a new strength & conditioning and linebackers coach in Mike Stauffer, who previously did a heck of a job at Jurupa Valley Patriot. Lake Elsinore Lakeside is experiencing a coaching change as Mark Chambers departs and James Seidler steps in. Perris wants to get back on track and will be looking for more in Mike Mesa’s second season as head coach. MoVal Canyon Springs needs a little luck, or a big-time athlete to fall into its lap.

PERRIS ORANGE VISTA (12-2, 5-0 Inland Valley) defensive line is stacked with the return of Ethan Saunders and Dion Wilson. Saunders was last season’s CIF-SS D-13 Defensive Player of the Year, and Wilson is bigger and perhaps even more explosive.

RIVERSIDE NORTH (5-6, 4-1) have explosiveness in RB Venasio Mikaele and WR Jadon Adams, the most experienced kicking game in the IVL, and always another Calhoun coming up the ranks. This year it’s sophomore QB Jeremiah Calhoun (6-2, 150).

RIVERSIDE POLY (5-5, 3-2) will be looking at senior QB Budd Bernie to step up and combine his outstanding playmaking ability with a maturing level of consistency.

LAKE ELSINORE LAKESIDE (3-7, 2-3) may struggle to find the right environment for QB Dakotah Pope and RB Jaylen McGee to be successful early.

PERRIS (2-8, 1-4) looks to have a strong offensive line led by C David Wright (5-11, 215) and T Maximus Martinez (6-1, 280).

MoVAL CANYON SPRINGS (0-10, 0-5) have just seven wins in the last three seasons under coach Howard Boyd.
