GAME OF THE WEEK: Riverside Poly at Ramona
THE DETAILS:
Riverside Poly vs. Riverside Ramona
CIF-Southern Section – Week 4
Nonleague
At Riverside (Calif.) Ramona High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 20
RIVERSIDE POLY (2-1 overall, 0-0 Inland Valley League) is riding the rollercoaster to start the 2019 season. Following a 16-14 win over Corona in its season opener, Poly suffered a 37-0 loss to La Verne Bonita before bouncing back last week and beating Riverside King, 20-17, to ride high into its second consecutive rivalry week. Senior QB Budd Bernie seems to languish in the pocket and looks far more comfortable on the run, which can put everyone on edge until a completion is made and the Bears move the ball. Senior RB Jason Harrel has stepped up to take on the bulk of the carries and help manage the offense.
HEAD COACH: John Rice
ROSTER – QB: Budd Bernie, Sr. (6-foot, 170 pounds); RB: Jason Harrel, Sr. (5-9, 175); RB: Joseph Cerda, Sr. (5-7, 175); WR: Zachary Ma, Sr. (5-11, 175); WR: Brody Brown, Sr. (5-10, 170); OL: Austin Wrobles, Sr. (6-1, 260); DE: Daniel Ledbetter, Sr. (6-2, 220); DT: Willie Jones, Sr. (6-2, 275); DB: Sammy Sanchez, Sr. (5-11, 150); ATH: Ethan Lamontagne, Sr. (6-1, 170); K: Collin Avery, Sr., (5-6, 155)
RAMONA (4-0 overall, 0-0 River Valley League) has found balance and consistency in jumping out to an unbeaten start. This is the fourth consecutive game at home for the Rams, who defeated crosstown rival Arlington, 35-20, last week. Junior QB Diego Muniz has proven to be quite the find, completing 62.2-percent of his passes for five TDs and more than 500 yards to this point. Muniz’ strong play has definitely taken the pressure off of senior RB Donte Roby, who can be his explosive best without the weight of 40 carries a game.
HEAD COACH: Ken Mushinskie
ROSTER – QB: Diego Muniz, Jr. (6-foot-1, 165 pounds); RB: Donte Roby, Sr. (5-6, 1785); RB: Brian Alvarenga, Jr. (5-8, 180); WR: David Cornejo, Sr. (6-foot, 165); WR: Adrian Monje, Jr. (5-11, 155); WR: Zach Shinar, Soph. (5-10, 155); OL: Bryant Aquino, Sr. (6-3, 250); DE: Keto Davis, Sr. (6-2, 175); LB: Julian Castaneda, Sr. (6-foot, 170); DB: Alejandro Martinez, Sr. (5-7, 145); K: Miguel Villa, Sr. (5-10, 180)
THE DIFFERENCE:
Donte Roby is one of the top ball carriers in the Inland Area. If Ramona’s offensive line gets a good push then look out.
THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Ramona 27, Riverside Poly 20
