Game of the Week: Mater Dei at Centennial

THE DETAILS:
Santa Ana Mater Dei vs. Centennial
CIF-Southern Section – Week 0
At Corona (Calif.) Centennial High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 18
MATER DEI (0-0 overall, 0-0 Trinity League) has gone through some stuff lately but has emerged with a new coach and a national No. 1 ranking thanks in part to history and year after year of ungodly incoming classes of players to which only the Monarchs seem to have access. Senior QB Elijah Brown is the real deal, but sophomore QB Cole Leinart is next up.
HEAD COACH: Frank McManus
ROSTER – QB: #12-Elijah Brown, Sr. (6-foot-2, 200 pounds); RB: #0-Jordon Davison, Jr. (6-foot, 207); RB: #6-Nathaniel Frazier, Sr. (5-11, 208); WR: #88-Jack Ressler, Sr. (5-11, 181); WR: #10-Marcus Harris, Jr. (6-foot, 181); OL: #73-Brandon Baker, Sr. (6-5, 295); DL: #89-Semi Tualanga, Sr. (6-foot, 313)
CENTENNIAL (0-0 overall, 0-0 Big West Upper) is again among Southern California’s Top 5, giving the Huskies the ability to host the nation’s No. 1 on opening day and give a spotlight to new QB Husan Longstreet. A transfer from Inglewood HS, Longstreet has a massive arm but can also rely on returning RB Cornell Hatcher to help move the chains behind a gigantic offensive line this season.
HEAD COACH: Matt Logan
ROSTER – QB: #4-Husan Longstreet, Jr. (6-foot-2, 195 pounds); RB: #2-Cornell Hatcher, Sr. (6-foot, 205); WR: #3-Seth Zamora, Sr. (5-11, 180); WR: #5-Jason Harris, Sr. (5-9, 170); T: Wade Helton, Sr. (6-5, 290); LB/DL: #7-Dez Polamalu, Sr. (6-2, 255)
THE DIFFERENCE:
Mater Dei is the No. 1-ranked team in the country by numerous publications. The Monarchs’ depth is three-fold and separates them from Centennial by a 2-to-3 touchdown margin.
THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Mater Dei 45, Centennial 21
