Prep 15 for 9/25/09

This will be the space every week where I take a look at (and predict) the 15 most intriguing Riverside and San Bernardino County high school football games.

Riverside Poly vs. Riverside Arlington — One thing is for certain: this game will be played between the hashes. Poly (2-0) has rushed for 570 yards in its two victories and is led by junior RB Jaron Farmer (5-foot-10, 17o pounds), who has averaged 114 yards per game. The Lions (2-0) have rushed for 631 yards and are led by junior RB Superiorr Reid (6-3, 215), who has averaged 130 yards per game. ARLINGTON 21, POLY 17.

Rialto Eisenhower at San Bernardino Arroyo Valley — Senior QB Richard Redd (6-2, 195) is averaging more than 350 combined yards per game (102 rush, 255 pass) for the Eagles (0-2), who have been outscored 45-109 thus far. What Redd is for Eisenhower, junior QB Michael Yearwood (5-11, 185) has been for the Hawks (2-0). Yearwood is averaging 307 combined yards (102 rush, 205 pass) and 15 points per game. EISENHOWER 21, ARROYO VALLEY 20.

Eastvale Roosevelt vs. Bloomington — Junior RB Edward Randolph (5-8, 210) gets his first real test for the Bruins (2-0), who are coming off wins over Ontario and Rialto Eisenhower. Randolph has averaged 202 rushing yards and 19 points per game this season. Senior RB Devon Dozier (5-6, 160) has been elusive for the Mustangs (2-0), averaging 17.7 yards per rush with three TDs. Mustangs sophomore QB Aaron Crone (6-0, 180) has completed 70 percent of his pass attempts (21-of-30) for 498 yards and four TDs. ROOSEVELT 42, BLOOMINGTON 20.

Fontana Kaiser vs. San Bernardino Cajon — Junior QB Thomas Carter (5-10, 175) leads the Cowboys (3-0), who are averaging more than 50 points per game. Carter (544 pass, 211 rush, 11 total TDs) will face a tougher test against the Kaiser (1-1), which typically fields a strong defense. CAJON 28, KAISER 21.

Covina Charter Oak at Rancho Cucamonga — I covered this game last season and came away thinking that neither team was particularly impressive in their 14-14 tie. Regardless of my opinion that day both teams continued to win — all the way to CIF titles. This year their both 2-0 and FOX SPORTS WEST will be at the game. What a difference a year can make! I’m predicting another tie. RANCHO CUCAMONGA 21, CHARTER OAK 21.

Moreno Valley Valley View at Temecula Chaparral — Senior Mitch Glasmann (6-4, 220) leads a balanced offensive attack for the Pumas (1-1), who are coming off a victory over Paloma Valley following their loss to Corona Centennial. Junior QB Max Holmes (6-0, 180) and Eagles (1-1) have struggled to score points, averaging less than 20 per game. CHAPARRAL 38, VALLEY VIEW 18.

Palm Springs vs. Colton — Senior RB Derrick Malone (6-2, 205) leads the Yellowjackets (1-1), who have struggled offensively this season. Malone is averaging 95 yards rushing per game. Palm Springs (2-0), on the other hand, has outscored opponents 56-14 in wins over Hemet and Moreno Valley, respectively. PALM SPRINGS 14, COLTON 9.

Redlands East Valley at Orange Lutheran — Senior QB Tyler Shreve (6-4, 225) leads the Wildcats (2-0). Shreve has completed 22 of 36 passes for 313 yards and five TDs while also rushing for 109 yards and one TD on 14 carries. Senior QB Bobby Wheatley (6-3, 210) leads the Lancers (1-1). Wheatley, like Shreve, has accounted for six total TDs this season. REDLANDS EAST VALLEY 28, ORANGE LUTHERAN 17.

Clovis West at Corona Centennial — Both teams are 1-1. Both teams have scored 44 points through two games this season. Clovis West has yet to score in the first quarter while Centennial has averaged eight points in the quarter. Junior QB Michael Eubank (6-5, 220) leads the Huskies, averaging 157 total yards per game. CENTENNIAL 22, CLOVIS WEST 16.

Vista Murrieta at Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos — The Broncos (2-0) are ranked 9th in the state and have outscored opponents 61-16 in victories over Colton and Corona Santiago. The Grizzlies (1-2) are led by senior QB Blake Loncar (6-5, 210), who is averaging 170 passing yards per game. VISTA MURRIETA 35, LOS OSOS 7.

Los Angeles Crenshaw vs. Riverside North — The senior running back duo of Sadale Foster (5-8, 190) and E.J. Schexnayder (6-0, 215) lead the Huskies (2-0), who have outscored opponents 75-33 thus far. Crenshaw (3-0) is led by junior QB Marquis Thompson (5-10, 168), who is averaging more than 270 yards passing per game and has led the Cougars to wins over Norco and Fontana Miller. CRENSHAW 39, NORTH 35.

La Quinta at Norco — Junior Chyl Robinson (6-0, 178) leads the Blackhawks (1-1), averaging 125.5 rushing yards per game. The Cougars (1-1) have had a rough go of it this year, losing a tight one to L.A. Crenshaw (47-44) in their opener before last week’s 37-27 win over Etiwanda. NORCO 20, LA QUINTA 17.

Riverside Notre Dame at Desert Hot Springs — Senior QB Chris Lopez (6-0, 180) leads the Titans (2-0), who claimed the Holy Shield with a victory over San Bernardino Aquinas last week. The Golden Eagles (1-2) are coming off a 42-41 win over Xavier Prep last week but have had trouble scoring points. NOTRE DAME 18, DESERT HOT SPRINGS 17.

San Bernardino vs. Fontana — The game as old as San Bernardino County. The Steelers (1-1) are led by senior Andrew Camarena (5-9, 165), who is averaging 127 rushing yards and 12 points per game. The Cardinals (1-1) are led by junior QB De’andre Effinger (6-0, 181), who has completed 40-of-60 pass attempts and thrown for 665 yards and four TDs. SAN BERNARDINO 31, FONTANA 24.

Riverside Ramona vs. Rubidoux Patriot — Senior Zach Adkins (6-1, 195) is averaging more than 245 total yards per game for the Rams (1-1), who are coming off a lopsided victory over Jurupa Valley. The Warriors (1-1) beat Citrus Valley in their opener but forfeited the game after a player was found to be academically ineligible. Patriot self-reported the violation. The Warriors are led on both sides of the ball by senior RB/LB Lou Mele, who is averaging 10.5 tackles per game. RAMONA 24, PATRIOT 21.
