Prep Impressions: Week 12
I covered the Wildomar California Lutheran-Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian CIF-Southern Section 8-Man Division semifinal varsity football game for The Press-Enterprise on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, and came away thinking Desert Christian coach Justin Tidwell saw a ghost.
Tidwell (center with white cap) was not on the sidelines when his team kicked off against Cal Lutheran, saying he suffered “palpitations” moments before the 7 p.m. game. Paramedics were on site shortly thereafter and apparently, Tidwell was cleared to return because he spoke after the game.
“I just didn’t feel too good so they wanted to evaluate it. Don’t quite know what it was. Something was going on with my chest – palpitations,” Tidwell said. “I could feel it. It was a little strange. Don’t quite know what it was, nerves or what.”
Three first-quarter turnovers, or a 1-for-7 second-half passing game weren’t magical elixirs as the Conquerers lost, 70-48, in their second consecutive CIF-SS 8-Man semifinal.
“I don’t know what was going on,” Tidwell said. “I don’t know. I’m too young for this.”
Desert Christian, which finished 9-3, lost to eventual champion Yucca Valley Joshua Springs, 40-32, in the semifinals last season.
Joshua Springs hosts Cal Lutheran in this year’s 8-Man championship game, to be played on Friday or Saturday.
