Prep Preview: Arlington at Valley View

I’m covering the Riverside Arlington-Moreno Valley Valley View boys varsity soccer match today for The Press-Enterprise. The best part of this assignment is sure to be the matchup between Arlington goalkeeper Ivan Hernandez and Valley View forwards Alex Turkson and Miguel Hernandez.

Two of the Inland Area’s top teams, No. 6 Arlington (1-0-1) plays at No. 3 Valley View (4-1-3). First whistle is set for 4:45 p.m.

THE LOWDOWN:
In their only non-league matches of the season, the Lions played to a 1-1 draw with Rubidoux on 12/9, and defeated Perris, 1-0, on 12/10. Erik Casteallanos scored the match-winner in the 66th minute against Perris.

The Eagles have continued to score goals and win matches, defeating both Temecula Valley and Vista Murrieta last week. Turkson netted his first career hat trick in a 4-0 victory over Vista Murrieta on 12/10.

STARTINGS XIs
ARLINGTON
— K: Ivan Hernandez; D: Julian Martinez, Juan Moreno, Erik Casteallanos, Steven Tello; MF: Fausto Rodriguez, David Argueta, Ernesto Durazo, Michael Moise; F: Eddie Morales, Jason Canahai.

VALLEY VIEW — K: Victor Silva; D: Christian Sandoval, Francisco Milian, Jake Gonzales, Victor Sandoval; MF: Danny Hernandez, Mason Anderson, Daniel Roman, Jason Goicochea. F: Miguel Hernandez, Alex Turkson.

THE DIFFERENCE:
Valley View’s attack. Turkson and Hernandez form something of a two-headed monster for coach John Kush, so if Turkson is off, as he was against Riverside Poly on 12/3, then Hernandez picks up the slack. It’ll be interesting to see how many offensive opportunities the Eagles get against Arlington’s all-league keeper, and how many they punch into the back of the net.
