FOUR & MORE: Best 2011 League Matches
1. No. 2 Riverside King at No. 6 Corona on THURSDAY — The Wolves are deep and talented on the wings with Garrett Lomanto and Carl Fitzgerald, and stout in goal with seniors Brad Doman and Jeremy Miulli splitting time. The Panthers are the unknown, but the success and quality reputation of their coach, Mike Sutherland, is undeniable. This match has the potential to turn the Big VIII League in its head.
2. No. 1 Moreno Valley Valley View at No. 7 Riverside Arlington on Wednesday, 1/26 — The Eagles won the first match on 12/13 with goals from Alex Turkson and Miguel Hernandez. A victory or draw would put the wraps on an Inland Valley League title for coach John Kush. Anything less would be a marquee result for Arlington.
3. No. 6 Corona at No. 5 Riverside Poly on Tuesday, 1/25 — The old guard of the Big VIII (and their respective soccer communities), a Corona-Poly boys soccer matchup always has the potential to be one of the most well-played games of the season. Only time will tell if it’ll have playoff implications; Poly has struggled lately.
4. No. 8 Temecula Great Oak at No. 3 Murrieta Valley on Wednesday, 2/2 — The Southwestern League hangs in the balance. The Wolfpack have played up to their competition, and even own a 4-1 non-league victory over No. 2 Riverside King this season. The Nighthawks have excelled, but lost to King in the Tilson Classic final.
AND MORE: No. 2 Riverside King at No. 5 Riverside Poly on Friday, 2/4 — Still almost one month from today, this match is an opportunity for King to finally assert itself, on Poly’s turf, as the city’s elite program. This season might be the one for coach Todd Mapes’ side.
