Inland Area Prep Baseball Top 10
1. Yucaipa (11-4) – Recent losses to both No. 4 Redlands East Valley and No. 10 Redlands aside, the Thunderbirds remain the top team in Inland Area on the strength of its talent and coaching staff. Senior 1B/P Kevin Davidson (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) leads coach Jeff Stout’s team with 19 RBI and 35 Ks. He homered and drove in five in a lopsided victory over Eisenhower last week.

2. Corona Santiago (12-5) – The Sharks steamrolled their way to the championship of the Darryl Kile Tournament, outscoring opponents 33-11 en route to the title. Sophomore OF Michael Darr (5-9, 185) had the biggest hit of his young career, blasting a three-run home run in the victory over King.

3. Corona Centennial (13-2) – The Huskies have won five straight since dropping their only Big VIII League game to No. 2 Santiago in late March. Senior INF Chandler Montalvo (6-foot, 180) went a combined 5 for 7 with a home run in a doubleheader sweep of Arlington last week.

4. Redlands East Valley (9-5) – The Wildcats have shaken a sluggish start, rattled off four consecutive Citrus Belt League victories, including at home against No. 1 Yucaipa last week, and are now on a roll. Senior INF Luke Bertino (6-foot, 175) went 3 for 3 with a triple, three runs and five RBI in the win.

5. Woodcrest Christian (11-2) — The Royals may be even more dominant than they were last season, when they only lost one game en route to a CIF-Southern Section Division 6 championship. Senior P Trevor Oaks (6-3, 205) has 59 strikeouts and a 0.39 ERA in 40.1 innings thus far. He’s currently 5-0 with one save, three shutouts and four complete games in seven appearances.

6. Vista Murrieta (15-3) – The Broncos are running roughshod through the Southwestern League, posting a 7-0 record thus far. Seven players have already reached double-digits in hits, six of which have reached double-digits in runs and RBI for coach Kurk Ruth.

7. Riverside Poly (8-7) – The Bears, off to a 1-3 start in the Big VIII, played well at the Orange El Modena HS tournament — winning their first three games — before running up against that “other” Poly in the semifinals and suffering the unluckiest of defeats. Junior C/OF R.J. Ybarra (5-11, 225) leads the team in hits (18) and runs (13) but has just seven RBI in 54 PAs thus far.

8. Upland (8-3) – The Highlanders have cooled off after a 6-0 start, compiling a 2-3 in the Baseline League thus far. Junior 3B Daniel Robertson (6-1, 185) doubled twice in a victory over Rancho Cucamonga last week. The slugging corner infielder has eight hits — including five doubles — in his last three games.

9. Norco (11-5) – The Cougars have been maddeningly inconsistent. They have wins over Woodcrest Christian and Corona Santiago but have lost (badly) to Riverside North and Diamond Ranch. Coach Gary Purcell’s side finished seventh at the Darryl Kile Tournament, but will face even tougher tests this week.

10. Redlands (13-3) – The Terriers have lost back-to-back games but have also defeated both No. 1 Yucaipa and No. 4 Redlands East Valley so they earn a spot in the FOMB Inland Area Top 10. Sophomore C/INF Jacob Nottingham (6-1, 170) is among Area leaders with 27 RBI.
