FOUR & MORE: Best Inland Area RBs

1. Davien Payne, Perris Citrus Hill — A wrecking-ball of a runner, this 6-foot-1, 215 pounds senior has committed to the University of Colorado. Payne ran for 1,928 yards and 27 TDs as a junior in 2010, making him the early favorite for 2011 Player of the Year honors. Powerful and quick, he’ll dominate the Mountain Pass League and may even make some noise in the playoffs. HUGE GAMES: Sept. 16 at Temecula Great Oak; Oct. 14 vs. Beaumont

2. Ryan Ruiz, Riverside Norte Vista — Another punishing runner, this 6-foot-1, 205-pound tailback has gained more than 4,000 yards in three varsity seasons heading into his senior season. The lone source of offense on a 5-6 playoff team, the Braves have a heartbeat so long as Ruiz has the ball tucked. I’m convinced he’d be a star playing in the Big VIII. HUGE GAMES: Oct. 14 at Fontana Summit; Nov. 4 at Fontana Kaiser.

3. Romello Goodman, Corona Centennial — What this 5-foot-7, 165 pound senior scatback lacks in size, he makes up for in eye-popping moves. Goodman ran for 1,141 yards and 12 TDs as a junior on a team with a 2,400-yard rusher (Barrinton Collins) and another 1,300-yard rusher (Michael Eubank), and will get anywhere from 50-80 more carries this season. HUGE GAMES: Sept. 16 at Santa Ana Mater Dei; Oct. 21 vs. Norco.

4. Burrell Handy, San Bernardino Aquinas — Playing for a small Catholic school hasn’t stopped this 5-foot-10, 170-pound halfback from getting noticed. He ran for at least 80 yards in every game and finished with 22 TDs and more than 1,300 yards in 2010. A straight-ahead runner with a second gear, Handy will throttle Ambassador League opponents in 2011. HUGE GAMES: Sept. 30 vs. Riverside Notre Dame; Nov. 3 at Temecula Linfield Christian.

AND MORE: Daniel Young, Rubidoux — The Falcons main-man is already and All-CIF talent, having been honored for his season as a defensive back in 2010. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound all-around athlete will be given plenty carries and a chance to ply his offensive wares to prospective D-1 recruiters. HUGE GAMES: Sept. 2 at Yucca Valley; Nov. 4 vs. Riverside Notre Dame.
