Garrett Swanson, Riverside King…
A highlight in what was season of dim results, Swanson’s kick is now among the best in California prep history, tying him for third all-time. A 6-foot-2, 180-pound thunder-foot, Swanson was the only player to score in every game for the Wolves (0-10 overal, 0-7 Big VIII), doormats of Inland Area large-school football. He averaged 46.8 yards per punt, had 24 drop inside his opponent’s 20, and had punts of 60 or more yards in each of his last four games. Swanson’s longest punt? 75 yards. Oh, and of his 29 kickoffs, 24 resulted in touchbacks.
King struggled mightily this season, scoring less than 10 points per game and averaging fewer than 200 total yards of offense per game. New coach Kevin Corridan helmed a young team, and will return most of his starters in 2012.
