Inland Area Prep Football Top 10
1. Vista Murrieta (7-5) — The Broncos are making the run. Potential Player Of The Year candidate Su’a Cravens was all over the field, with 200-plus rushing and three TDs and an interception on defense as Coach Coley Candaele’s team extended its 2011 on-the-field unbeaten streak to 12 games.
LAST RANKED: No. 1. LAST WEEK: d. No. 9 Riverside North 58-14 in a CIF-Southern Section Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: vs. No. 4 Upland on FRIDAY.
2. Corona Centennial (11-1) — The Huskies’ Romello Goodman put on a clinic with 356 yards and eight (8) touchdowns. Can Coach Matt Logan’s offense line sustain its dominance?
LAST RANKED: No. 2. LAST WEEK: d. Temecula Chaparral 56-21 in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: vs. No. 5 Rancho Cucamonga on FRIDAY.
3. Moreno Valley Rancho Verde (12-0) — The Mustangs look ready to claim their first CIF title, having won every game by 14 or more points this season. Coach Pete Duffy’s team is littered with Division-I talent, from seniors like Devonte Collier to sophomore Keshawn Slaughter, and should be there with their hands up when the clock hits 0.0 on the season.
LAST RANKED: No. 3. LAST WEEK: d. San Bernardino San Gorgonio 42-28 in a CIF-SS Central Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: vs. Ontario Colony on FRIDAY
4. Upland (12-0) — Said it before… the Scots/Highlanders/TimSalters may be the best team around. This week is their chance to prove it. One question: Will senior WR Kenny Lawler’s play be affected by his decision to cancel his commitment to Arizona State in the wake of coach Dennis Erickson’s firing?
LAST RANKED: No. 5. LAST WEEK: d. Covina Charter Oak 51-13 in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: at No. 1 Vista Murrieta on FRIDAY.
5. Rancho Cucamonga (11-1) — Little-know-fack: The Cougars pulled off a rare non-league feat, defeating two-of-the-three Redlands’ schools this season. The only team it didn’t play… Citrus Valley. Which school would have won that game? Likely Rancho Cucamonga, but as we’ve seen recently, the Blackhawks can put up a fight, albeit foolishly and perhaps negligently.
LAST RANKED: No. 7. LAST WEEK: d. No. 7 Redlands East Valley 9-6 in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25
WEEK THIRTEEN: at No. 2 Corona Centennial on FRIDAY.
6. Fontana Summit (11-1) — The SkyHawks looked like a well-oiled machine in Week 12, dominating the first quarter like an top-tier Inland Division team might. Senior trio Donte “Neon” Deayon, Jamaal Williams and Bernard Porter rank with best in the Inland Area, and are right there with last year’s trio of Devon Blackmon (Oregon), Montigo Alford (Southern Idaho) and Deayon (Boise State).
LAST RANKED: No. 7. LAST WEEK: d. Victorville Silverado in a CIF-SS Eastern Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: vs. Phelan Serrano on FRIDAY.
7. Redlands East Valley (11-1) — The Wildcats are what we thought they were. That is, a team that had trouble on offense but always played to the level of their competition. It’s a style that is always doomed to eventual failure.
LAST RANKED: No. 4. LAST WEEK: lost 9-6 to No. 5 Rancho Cucamonga in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: Season complete.
8. Perris Citrus Hill (12-0) — The Hawks are bringing the Payne… the Davien Payne. But the senior only had to rush for 76 yards and two TDs last week as Coach Eric Zomalt’s team continues its march toward a CIF title game, and a potential showdown with No. 6 Fontana Summit.
LAST RANKED: No. 9. LAST WEEK: d. Ridgecrest Burroughs 45-10 in a CIF-SS Eastern Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: vs. No. 10 Menifee Heritage on FRIDAY.
9. Riverside North (10-2) — The Huskies’ explosive offense finally sputtered. Senior QB Justin Gheorghe, already nursing a tender throwing arm/shoulder, was ineffective in his final prep football game, throwing three interceptions. He was also sacked five times under the weight of the Inland Area’s best defense.
LAST RANKED: No. 6. LAST WEEK: lost 58-14 to No. 1 Vista Murrieta in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: Season complete.
10. Menifee Heritage (11-1) — The Patriots continue to impress with the combination of senior RB Tony Hifo and and junior TB Jamal Morrow. Are these backs ready for the big time? We’ll find out on Friday night.
LAST RANKED: Not Ranked. LAST WEEK: d. Fontana Kaiser 42-14 in a CIF-SS Eastern Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK THIRTEEN: at No. 8 Perris Citrus Hill on FRIDAY.
DROPPED OUT: Riverside La Sierra (10-2).
JUST MISSED: Palm Springs (12-0); Ontario Colony (11-1), Phelan Serrano (10-2).
