1. Justin Garza, La Verne Bonita — The 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior is committed to Cal State Fullerton, and is among MaxPreps.com’s 100 best high school players. He allowed four hits, walked two and struck out nine in his first start this season, a 6-0 over La Verne Damien on Feb. 24.
2. Kevin Stevens, Redlands East Valley — Intimidating is the word for this senior, who has not allowed a hit or a run in nine IP this season while compiling a 2-0 record with 17 Ks and seven HBPs. He was 2-1 with 20 Ks and a 1.34 ERA in 15.2 IP last season.
3. Tyler Sapp, Yucaipa — The 6-foot, 185-pound right-hander established himself with an imposing junior year, in which he struck out 56 batters in 39.2 IP. He opened 2012 by striking out eight in his season debut, a 5-3 victory over Covina Charter Oak on Feb. 25.
4. Jose Gamez, Riverside La Sierra — This Eagles’ senior captain has struck out eight in back-to-back performances and allowed a total of just five hits in two 13 IP to buoy a 3-1 start for Coach Mike Palo’s team. Gamez went 5-1 with 37 Ks and a 1.05 ERA in 46.2 IP last season.
AND MORE: Angel Landazuri, Redlands — The 5-foot-11, 170-pound junior is 1-0 with 16 Ks in 13 IPs for the Terriers (4-0), the No. 2-ranked team in this week’s Inland Area Top 10. Landazuri was 9-1 with a 2.22 ERA and one save as a sophomore, finishing with 72 Ks in 82 IP.
