FOUR & MORE: Best Inland Area 2Bs

1. Nate Van Bruggen, Murrieta Calvary Chapel — The 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior second baseman is simply slugging, and is currently riding a seven-game hit streak and a six-game RBI streak. He leads all CIF-Southern Section 2Bs with two HRs, and he went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and an RBI against San Bernardino Aquinas on 3/27.

2. Adrian Plascencia, Victorville Victor Valley Christian — It may be something of a small-school renaissance at 2B, with Van Bruggen and Plascencia at the top of this list. Plascencia (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) is batting .528 and leads all CIF-Southern Section second basemen with 19 hits and 18 RBI.

3. Jesse Johnson, Norco — Only a sophomore, Johnson (5-foot-8, 170 pounds) is doing his best to hold down 2B for the Cougars, a perennial playoff contender. So far, so good. Double J is batting .348 and even had a four-hit game vs. Diamond Ranch on 3/7.

4. Taylor Grace, Rancho Cucamonga — The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior is enjoying a fine start to the season for the Cougars, batting .394 with four doubles and three triples among his 13 hits. He had a four-hit game against Jurupa Valley on 3/19.

AND MORE: Kevin Copeland, Phelan Serrano — The Diamondbacks will rely on Copeland (5-foot-9, 170 pounds) for leadership and his steady bat all season long. The senior has hits in seven of his nine games, and is batting .440 with 10 runs scored.

………………Ethan Stine, Apple Valley — Seems the High Desert is producing its share of 2B talent, and though Stine may only be a 5-foot-7, 130-pound junior, he’s producing (.485 BA, 10 RBI in 10 games) like a player twice his size.
