FOUR & MORE: Best Inland Area 3Bs

PREP BASEBALL THIRD BASEMEN 2012

1. Daniel Robertson, Upland — Signed his National Letter of Intent to attend UCLA, and was highly regarded at the recent Area Code Games. Size — 6-foot-1, 185 pounds — seems to be a dwindling issue for Robertson, hitting .560 (28 for 50) with five HRs, eight 2Bs and 24 RBI in 16 games. Unlike the others on this list, his draft stock will ultimately determine where he plays baseball next season.

2. Taylor Wetzel, Apple Valley Granite Hills — Among CIF-Southern Section leaders in RBI (32) and runs (31), this 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior is lighting up scoreboards with his .531 BA (34 for 64) and 13-games hitting streak. In fact, he has hits in 16 of 18 games this season, including a six-hit effort against Barstow on 4/10.

3. Tyler Rausa, Vista Murrieta — A superb two-sport athlete, Rausa, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound senior, was selected to the 2011 All-Inland Area Football Team after a stellar season as kicker for the Broncos, the Inland Division champions. He’s currently batting .400 (22 for 55) with hits in 14 of his last 15 games.

4. David Garcia, Norco — Has produced (15 hits, 14 RBI) despite limited playing time. A 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior, Garcia is batting .441 in just 11 games, including a massive, three-hit, six-RBI performance vs. Hemet West Valley on 4/4.

AND MORE: Thomas Castro, La Verne Bonita — Has hits in 16 of 19 games this season for the Bearcats, who along with No. 1 Redlands, are the only teams still with just one loss. This 5-foot-9, 160-pound junior is currently hitting .463 (25 for 54) with 14 RBI and 19 runs.

………………….Cole Young, Corona — Promising 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore looks to be one of the most exciting players in the Inland Area for season to come. He’s hitting .310 (18 for 58) with 12 RBI and 16 runs in 20 games, and is among Area leaders with four HRs.

………………….Kyle Callahan, Hesperia Oak Hills — Started the season on an impressive nine-game hitting streak, but has cooled off some since. This 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior is batting .377 (20 for 53) with eight XBHs and 17 RBI in 17 games.
