Prep Preview: Big VIII Golf Finals

I’m covering the Big VIII Golf Individual Finals today at Temeku Hills Golf Club in Temecula today for The Press-Enterprise. The best part of this assignment will be covering the Corona Santiago’s Aaron Wise and Ryan Odom, two of the best amateur golfers in the Inland Area.

THE LOW DOWN:
Corona Santiago’s Ryan Odom comes in with the biggest recent accolade, having won the inaugural Inland Empire Golf Championship at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto on April 16. Just one week later, Wise finished second, one shot behind the winner of the Titan Invitational at Canyon Lake GC on April 23. Odom, however, finished fourth.

KEY PLAYERS:
Aaron Wise, Corona Santiago
Ryan Odom, Corona Santiago
John Swierczek, Corona Santiago
….. Nepomuceno, Corona Santiago
Eric Cross, Riverside Poly
Greg Gonzalez, Riverside Poly
….. Milazzo, Riverside Poly
….. Kummerfield, Riverside King
….. McGee, Riverside King
….. Perriera, Riverside King
….. Arrelano, Riverside King
….. A. Carlson, Corona Centennial

THE DIFFERENCE:
If this was a team event, Santiago would have a clear advantage (perhaps the biggest advantage any team has had in the history of the Big VIII), but it’s not. Today is the league’s individual finals; a one-off, 18-hole race to the finish. Any player on that list could take the title, and maybe even one we failed to mention. More than likely, however, it’ll be Wise or Odom.
PREDICTION: Aaron Wise (-2) wins his first Big VIII title
