Prep Preview: Sunbelt League
The Sunbelt League is top-heavy, per usual. It used to be Elsinore that carried the league on its back, but no longer! Menifee Heritage will tote the load this year with a sterling senior class featuring exceptional skill players.
Heritage (12-2) was the Eastern Division runner-up in 2011, losing to Fontana Summit by seven points in the title game. Senior RB Jamal Morrow is among the Inland Area’s elite, and senior DB Darius Allensworth is courting PAC-12 scholarship offers.
Elsinore (8-4) lost three of its last four games to drop out of the Inland Area Top 10, including a laugher vs. Phelan Serrano in an Eastern Division 2nd Round game. Senior RB Allen Stubbs ran for 17 TDs and more than 1,500 yards last season.
Temescal Canyon finished 4-6 but should have success running behind senior FB Dawson Lindeman, who ran for 210 yards and three TDs vs. Heritage in 6.
Paloma Valley was 6-5 in 2011 but returns junior QB Brent Boehm, who came on in Week 4 and won five of seven games down the stretch before losing to Summit, the eventual Eastern Division champ, in the 1st Round.
Lake Elsinore Lakeside (3-7) and Perris (3-7) are both struggling to keep up, and this is one of the softer division in the Inland Area.
