I’m covering the Temecula Chaparral-Redlands East Valley boys varsity basketball game tonight for The Press-Enterprise and The best part of this assignment is that both may be among the best teams in the Inland Area.

chappyLOGOIt’s early in the season so teams are just starting to get their complete lineups together as football players begin to infiltrate. Inconsistency is a predominant theme in these games, and coaches try things that an observer would not see come the first of the year and league play.

Chaparral (3-1 overall) won its last two games at the Beaumont HS Tournament and comes into tonight’s game with a little bit of momentum on its side. Senior shooting guard Dylan Jacobsen was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 19 points and five rebounds per game, and senior guard Sean Manganti is averaging in 13 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Pumas, who have just three seniors on their roster.
