Redlands RB/LB Zack Lindsey led the Terriers in rushing in their season opener vs. Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.

Take a closer look at Redlands senior RB/LB Zack Lindsey, and you’ll see more than a hard-nosed runner. You’ll see raw potential.

Lindsey is a player with enough heart for two teams, and is more than just solid in interviews. The 5-foot-10, 215-pound back is an almost spectacular class act.

When asked what about the offensive game plan Week 0 vs. Rancho Cucamonga, he was insightful.

“Coming into it we had a game plan where we knew we wanted to spread it around. Do what we can do best,” Lindsey said. “We have the potential to get it on the edge or pound it up the middle. It just seems we took advantage of what we could get. Running it up the middle and running it off tackle is kind of my forte, and I did a good job at that.”

Redlands scored on a hook-and-ladder play to cap its first drive of the season but did not score again as Rancho Cucamonga reeled off 31 unanswered points.

So what was it like on Redlands’ sideline after the first score?

“After the first touchdown it was an amazing feeling,” he said. “We came out and really wanted to bring the physicality to them. They’re a very physical; a very well-coached football team. It was good for us to come out, show how physical we were and everyone was in high spirits.”

So what might Lindsey, who had two tackles and totaled 96 rushing yards on 27 carries, and the Terriers take from such a lop-sided opening?

“From tonight, I think we believe we are a very physical football team,” he said. “It’s obvious… it’s very apparent we made quite a bit of mistakes. With all the penalties, and key missed blocks, and some defensive mishaps… we have some things to work on but we have the potential to be a decent football team.”

So what’s in it for you this season?

“I just want to go and win some football games. I’d like to go to the playoffs and do the best we can as a football team,” he said.

Off the record, he intimated that there were two or three schools interested. He declined to say which.

Well played, Mr. Lindsey. Well played.
