Prep Preview: Aquinas at Notre Dame

I’m covering the San Bernardino Aquinas-Riverside Notre Dame varsity football game on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, for The Press-Enterprise and

The best part of this assignment? Easy. It’s the Holy War.

The Falcons (3-0 overall) have just 28 guys on their roster but have not allowed more than 13 points to an opponent this season, including a 25-13 victory at Twentynine Palms two weeks ago. Seniors Will Seltz and Michael DeLeon are the heartbeat of this year’s team but sophomore Uche Ohaeri is a beast, and should be for years to come.

The Titans (3-1 overall) finally have an offense to tout, and may have the quarterback to get them to the postseason. Currently, senior Paul Bradvica is the Inland Area’s leading passer through the first four weeks of the season, having completed 60 of 110 pass attempts for 1,075 yards, 10 TDs and zero INTs.

Aquinas — RB/SS: Will Seltz (Sr., 5-9, 185); RB/CB: Michael DeLeon (Sr., 5-10, 150); FB/DL: Uche Ohaeri (Soph., 6-1, 215); OL/LB: Juan Ocampo (Sr., 5-9, 190); FB/OLB: Daniel Morales (Jr., 5-10, 225); OL/LB: Isaiah Flores (Sr., 5-10, 195); CB/WR: Miguel Flores (Soph., 6-foot, 165); K/P: Randolph Munoz (Soph., 5-10, 145).

Notre Dame — QB/DB: Paul Bradvica (Sr., 5-10, 160); WR/DB: Wesley Smith (Soph., 5-11, 170); RB/OLB: Andrew Rodriguez (Sr., 5-10, 185); WR/OLB: Anthony McMaster, (Sr., 6-foot, 180); WR/LB: Daniel Baytosh (Jr., 5-10, 185); RB/LB: Lawrence Mai (Soph., 5-10, 170); QB/OLB: Chance Nelson (Jr., 6-4, 185); K/P: Manny Guerrero (Soph., 5-10, 170).

Notre Dame’s ability to finally get a PAT — they misses several last week — and Bradvica’s calm under pressure should be enough for the Titans to defeat Aquinas for the first time in four seasons.
THE FINAL SCORE: Notre Dame 28, Aquinas 25
