Prep Preview: Carter at San Gorgonio

I’m covering the Rialto Carter-San Bernardino San Gorgonio varsity football game on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 for The Press-Enterprise and HSGametime.com.

The best part of this assignment is the importance of this game. I mean, I wouldn’t travel into San Bernardino for anything else than the San Andreas League’s game of the year.

CarterLOGOTHE LOW DOWN:
The Lions (6-2 overall, 3-0 San Andreas League) saw their 13-game nonleague winning streak come to an end early this season but are right back at the top of the SAL with 115 points over the last three games. Coach Alex Pierce has led this group to deep playoff runs each of the last years and nothing less should be expected this postseason.

The Spartans (8-0 overall, 5-0 San Andreas League) have built upon last season’s success to have the best record in the CIF-SS Eastern Division. A win tonight would secure their first league title in who-knows-how-many seasons, and be a boost to a program that Coach Ron Gueringer said wants “to build that kind of expectations at San G.”

SanGorgonioLOGOTHE KEY PLAYERS:
Carter — QB: Leni Toailoa (Soph., 6-1, 180); RB/FS: Tamas Stewart (Sr., 6-foot, 175); RB/DB: John Guerra (Sr., 5-11, 180); Benjamin Fitzpatrick (Sr., 5-9, 175) OL/DL: Kyon Clark (Sr., 6-2, 350); DE: Traveon Lee (Sr., 6-foot, 240).

San Gorgonio — QB: Tahir Rasheed-Mills (Sr., 5-8, 175); RB: Wesley Hill (Sr., 5-11, 180); WR: Nathan Meadors (Jr, 5-11, 165); OL/DL: Malik Anderson (Sr., 5-10, 220); Kyle Jenkins (Jr., 6-foot, 225); DE: Cal Jenkins (Jr., 6-1, 240).

THE DIFFERENCE:
San Gorgonio’s borderline historic offense. The Spartans have scored 383 points — that’s just short of Vista Murrieta (409) and Corona Centennial (408) — and have blowing out teams since the start of the season.
THE FINAL SCORE: San Gorgonio 38, Carter 31
