PREP FOOTBALL 2015
SAN ANDREAS LEAGUE PREVIEW

(Records in parenthesis)

Ron Gueringer carved a gem where there was only rock before. Over the last several seasons Gueringer has turned San G. into a high-octane juggernaut that goes deep into the playoffs. Doing it, the whole time, while representing the SAL. The same cannot be said for any other team. Not yet, anyway.

San Bernardino San Gorgonio (10-2 overall, 5-0 SAL) had one its best ever senior classes, but the Spartans’ season ended in the semifinals. Some promising players return, including senior DE/OLB Shermiah Whitson (6-foot-3, 240 pounds), who has 12 sacks among his 21 solo tackles last season.

Fontana Jurupa Hills (5-6, 4-1) was within three touchdowns of two more wins last season, so in a sense it was a very good first year in the SAL for Coach Ed McMillon. QB Julian Curiel is back after posting a 12-TD, 1,300-yard performance as a junior, and he has a few capable backs.

Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World (5-6, 3-2) made another playoff appearance last season on the back of one more Taylor Bros., but no such lineage, err luck, this season. Coach Ernie Madrigal will need to get the most out of what looks to be a limited roster so far.

Rialto (1-9, 1-4) had one of the worst seasons in its history, and there looks to be little reason why Drew Young and Co. will fair much better this season. Junior FB/LB Tupac Flowers looks to be Knights’ top returning defender.

San Bernardino Arroyo Valley (1-9, 1-4) is going to take a step forward under coach Demetrius Steward. This might be the season. Led by senior LB Roy Woods, the Hawks are as athletic as any team in the league.

San Bernardino Indian Springs (1-9, 1-4) is entering just its third varsity season. Dynamic playmaker Marcus Johnson should return, but there’s many unanswered questions for coach David DeWoody.
