THE DETAILS:
Moreno Valley vs. Norte Vista
CIF-Southern Section – Week 2
Nonleague
At Riverside (Calif.) Norte Vista HS
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 31

MORENO VALLEY (1-0 overall, 0-0 Mountain Valley) pummeled cross-town rival Canyon Springs, 49-0, on the opening of the Cougars’ new stadium. Sure, it was rude but it also signaled intent. The Vikings aren’t messing around this season. They’ve got a talented squad and they want to get some. Senior RB Doryan Cole ran fore 250-plus and two TDs in the win, and junior QB Davonte Gandy looked pretty solid in his first start of the season, completing 6 of 8 pass attempts for 150 yards and two TDs.
HEAD COACH: Ted Wadkins
ROSTER – QB: Davote Gandy, Jr. (5-foot-10, 180 pounds); RB: Doryan Cole, Sr. (5-7, 155); FB: Mafilao Avatango, Jr. (6-2, 245); WB: Leroy Louis, Jr. (6-2, 175); OL: Juan Altamirano, Sr. (6-4, 305); DL: Javion Jackson, Jr. (6-5, 335); LB: Jahleel Holmes, Sr. (6-2, 225); CB: Jorell Jackson, Sr. (6-foot, 175); K: Jonathan Morales, Sr. (6-foot, 175)

NORTE VISTA (1-0 overall, 0-0 River Valley) went up to the High Desert and snuck past Hesperia Sultana, 22-21, in Week 1. The Braves didn’t attempt a pass but ran the ball 56 times for 308 yards, with senior QB Miron Hazem adding the crucial two-point conversion that proved to be the game-winner. Senior RB Chris Melesio scored his first three TDs and totaled his first 250-yard rushing performance of the season in the win, but only time will tell how close he’ll get to his brother Eric’s total of more than 4,400 yards during his regular season.
HEAD COACH: Ken Batdorf
ROSTER – QB: Miron Hazem, Sr. (5-foot-10, 180 pounds); RB: Chris Melesio, Sr. (5-11, 200); FB: Tristan Goff, Sr. (5-10, 280); TE: Bane Baker, Sr. (6-2, 220); OL: Joshua Mameli, Jr. (6-4, 280); DL: Angel Quevedo, Sr. (6-3, 220); LB: Edgar Ugalde, Sr. (5-9, 230); DB: Leo Vargas, Sr. (5-10, 160); ATH: Eddie Allain, Fr. (5-10, 150)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Moreno Valley’s experience on the offensive line. This is a team that can move people and dominate the line of scrimmage.
