GAME OF THE WEEK: Mission Viejo at Centennial

THE DETAILS:
Mission Viejo vs. Corona Centennial
CIF-Southern Section – Division 1 – Quarterfinal Round
At Corona (Calif.) Centennial High School
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 12
MISSION VIEJO (9-1 overall, 3-0 South Coast League) struggled against Anaheim Servite in Week 1 but have run roughshod over the rest of its schedule including a 45-0 shutout of San Clemente in Week 10. The Diablos have a lot of beef on their offensive line and can throw bodies at the pile, but still only average about 5.0 yards per carry. Junior QB Kade Semonza has found his comfort level and has two or three receivers he really likes in the passing game.
HEAD COACH: Chad Johnson
ROSTER – QB: #3-Kade Semonza, Jr. (6-foot, 180 pounds); RB: #6-Kenny Manassero, Sr. (5-10, 190); WR: #8-Mikey Matthews, Jr. (5-foot-10, 180); WR: #4-Kijana Reed, Jr. (6-foot, 175); TE: #9-Jackson Holman, Jr. (6-3, 210); OL/C: Israel Faamatsu, Sr. (5-11, 275); DE: #11-Finley Weinheimer, Sr. (6-3, 210); OLB: Daniel Dominguez, Sr. (5-9, 195); CB/SS: #2-Jake Higgins, Sr. (5-11, 185), K/P: #90-Michael Salgado-Medina, Soph. (6-2, 174)
CORONA CENTENNIAL (10-0 overall, 5-0 Big VIII League) hasn’t played a competitive game since the first quarter against Norco in Week 8, and hasn’t really played a full four quarters this season. The Huskies’ starters on offense have not played much past halftime in most games, but the defense continues to show up. Junior DL Lucas Conti (6-foot-5, 260) led the team with 6.0 sacks during the regular season, while senior DE Gaviel Lightfoot had 4.5 sacks and a team-high 17 QB hurries.
HEAD COACH: Matt Logan
ROSTER – QB: #1-Izzy Carter, Sr. (6-foot-2, 183 pounds); QB: #17-Carson Conklin, Jr. (5-11, 185); RB: #5-Jayson Cortes, Jr., (5-8, 190); WR: #13-Eric Denham, Jr. (6-foot, 170); OL: #56-AJ Viapulu, Sr. (6-2, 250); DL: #99-Gavriel Lightfoot, Sr. (6-3, 295); MLB: #44-Ethan Wenzel, Sr. (6-2, 220); CB: #8-Jaden Mickey, Sr. (5-11, 155); K: #82-Ayden Angeles, Sr. (5-11, 170)
THE DIFFERENCE:
The Huskies defense has been built for this game and these playoffs. A massive pass rush, linebackers who fly to the ball and one of the best secondaries in the nation will get this job done.
THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Centennial 48, Mission Viejo 30
