CLOSER LOOK: Moreno Valley’s Jahsiah Sio
Take a closer look at Moreno Valley junior Jahsiah Sio and you’ll see a player who has put in the work when nobody was watching.
One of the Inland area’s top running backs this season, Sio was small but mighty as the Vikings (3-0 overall, 0-0 Sunbelt League) stayed unbeaten with a victory over Tahquitz on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The 5-foot-6, 150-pound scat back had 32 carries for 213 yards and one touchdown in the win. The creator of Moreno Valley’s offensive pace, Sio’s ability between the tackles set up everything else the Vikings did with the ball.
The Vikings have been one-and-done in the playoffs each of the last two years but this year, with Sio, could be different.
We caught up with Sio as was chatting with family near the fence after MoVal’s 28-14 win over Tahquitz. It was probably his first time talking to a reporter.
InlandFieldhouse.com: You guys are off to a 3-0 start so what’s going right?
Jahsiah Sio: “Our communication with our team. Everyone is working together and it’s everything we learn in practice and watching film.”
IF: How are you picking up big chunks when you get the ball?
JS: “I try to stay on my feet as much as I can so no matter if I get hit, I’m going to try to stay up.”
IF: Is this the right mix for you guys on offense with you getting 32 carries?
JS: “Oh yeah. Running the ball, opening the passing game and a lot of defenses will shift their focus onto the run game and it just opens up for our QB a lot, and downfield our receivers are prepared so they’re ready to make plays.”
IF: Where is William Davis in his progression as a QB?
JS: “It’s his first year playing varsity. In the opener he helped us win it in overtime, so I think he’s just getting better and better every game.”
