Inland Area Prep Football Top 10

1. Corona Centennial (14-0) — The Huskies steamrolled every team in their path en route to the championship of the CIF-Southern Section Inland Division. Senior RB Barrinton Collins (5-foot-10, 205 pounds) ran for five TDs and nearly 300 yards in the title game as Centennial broke the state record for yards in a season. The title, the record, three state bowl games in five seasons; this is the Inland Area football program to emulate, allegations of recruiting be damned.
LAST RANKED: No. 1.
LAST WEEK: d. Inland Area No. 2 Vista Murrieta, 45-21, in CIF-Southern Section Inland Division championship game on 12/10.
WEEK 15: vs. Palo Alto (13-0) in a CIF-State Division 1 championship game at Home Depot Center (Ca.) FRIDAY.

2. Vista Murrieta (13-1) — The Broncos ran through the playoffs and all the way into the mouth of a buzz saw. Senior QB Derrick Brown (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) cemented his place in Inland Area lore with a second consecutive appearance in an Inland Division final, but that lore becomes a trivia question without at least one victory.
LAST RANKED: No. 2.
LAST WEEK: lost to No. 1 Corona Centennial, 45-21 in CIF-SS Inland Division championship game on 12/10.

3. Colton (11-3) — The Yellowjackets do, indeed, sting. Never considered a contender by FOMB, coach Rich Bray’s team avenged a regular-season loss to SAL-mate Cajon and followed it up with a victory over Rancho Verde in the title game. Colton must have a very (ful)filled football athletic director right now.
LAST RANKED: Not Ranked.
LAST WEEK: d. No. 4 Moreno Valley Rancho Verde, 17-7, in CIF-SS Central Division championship game on 12/10.

4. Moreno Valley Rancho Verde (13-1) — The Mustangs’ season will be forever bookmarked by devastating losses. First, the death in August of Boise State-bound Emil Smith. And now, a 10-point defeat in a CIF-Southern Section Central Division title game in which Rancho Verde scored a season-low seven points.
LAST RANKED: No. 3.
LAST WEEK: lost to No. 3 Colton, 17-7, in CIF-SS Central Division championship game on 12/10.

5. Elsinore (12-2) — The Tigers out-Kaisered Kaiser in an Eastern Division semifinal, then shut down Summit’s prolific offense in the title game to win their first CIF football title in their 83 seasons. Coach Tony Peralta may draw up plays in the dirt (as FOMB has heard one industry insider describe), but he clearly gets the job done.

LAST WEEK: d. Fontana Summit, 21-7, in CIF-SS Eastern Division championship game on 12/11.

6. Rancho Cucamonga (11-2) — The Cougars represented in the Baseline League’s first year in the Inland Division, defeating a Big VIII League team (Roosevelt) in a quarterfinal before losing in double-overtime to No. 2 Vista Murrieta in the semifinals. And coach Nick Baiz’s team should be better next season with QB Dmitri Morales (22 TDs, 5 INTs) returning for his senior year.
LAST RANKED: Not Ranked.
LAST GAME: lost to No. 2 Vista Murrieta, 35-28 (2 OT), in CIF-SS Inland Division semifinal game on 12/4.

7. Chino Hills (11-2) — The Huskies went into a dogfight and came out bloodied and bruised, losing to the other Huskies in an Inland Division semifinal. A program-changing defeat, coach Derek Bub’s team will not be this good again any time soon. Several notable seniors, including Oregon-bound WR Ifo Expre-Olomu (6-2, 185), are graduating.
LAST WEEK: No. 8.
LAST WEEK: lost to No. 1 Centennial, 42-23, in CIF-SS Inland Division semifinal game on 12/3.

8. Fontana Kaiser (12-1) — The Cats defense may have been ridiculously good, but their offense turned out to be completely one-dimensional. Coach Phil Zelaya should find solace in losing to the eventual Eastern Division champion, and by just eight points.
LAST RANKED: No. 4.
LAST WEEK: lost to No. 5 Elsinore, 20-12, in CIF-SS Eastern Division semifinal game on 12/3.

9. Norco (9-3) — The Cougars relied on Stanford-bound senior RB Kelsey Young (6-1, 192) for everything he had. The Inland Area leader with 25 TDs and more than 1,800 rushing yards during the regular season, Young could carry Norco no further than the quarterfinals.
LAST RANKED: No. 6.
LAST GAME: lost to No. 2 Vista Murrieta, 45-6, in CIF-SS quarterfinal game on 11/26.

10. Fontana Summit (10-3-1) — The SkyHawks advanced to the first CIF-Southern Section division title game in their five-year history, but were limited to just one touchdown in losing to Elsinore. It would have been a good story had coach Tony Barile celebrated the birth of his twin daughters (born earlier this year) with a championship. It would have been.

LAST GAME: lost to No. 5 Elsinore, 21-7, in CIF-SS Eastern Division championship game on 12/11.

JUST MISSED: San Bernardino Cajon (10-3); Eastvale Roosevelt (9-3); La Quinta (10-3); Riverside Arlington (9-3); Palm Springs (10-2); Upland (8-4); Phelan Serrano (11-2); Chino (11-1).
