Inland Area Prep Soccer Top 10

1. Moreno Valley Valley View (6-1-3) – The Eagles’ only loss remains a 1-0 defeat to Colton at the Rancho Cucamonga HS Tournament. Coach John Kush’s side recently trounced Moreno Valley to stay unblemished in the Inland Valley League but doesn’t play again until 2011.

2. Murrieta Valley (9-2-1) – The Nighthawks trailed early but found cohesion in the second half of a 2-1 victory over Cajon on 12/21, in a semifinal at the Riverside Poly Tom Tilson Holiday Classic. Coach Matt Stratton’s team has now won seven consecutive.

3. Riverside King (6-2-3) – The Wolves avenged their 1-0 loss to Chaparral in last year’s Tilson Classic final with a 1-0 victory Tuesday in this year’s semifinals. Justyn Peeples scored the match-winner on a first-half header for King, which jumps three spots in the week’s Inland Area Top 10 but plays No. 2 Murrieta Valley in the tourney final.

4. Riverside Poly (4-3-2) – The Bears have yet to win more than two consecutive matches, and bowed out in the quarterfinals of the Tilson Classic. This may not be as strong a Poly side as Alex Figueroa has produced in recent seasons.
LAST WEEK: (No. 3); d. Redlands Citrus Valley, 7-1, on 12/18; d. Palm Springs, 5-0, on 12/18; lost to San Bernardino Cajon, 2-1, on 12/21.

5. Corona (3-0-0) — That Panthers haven’t played since defeating Placentia El Dorado on 12/3, and will not play again until the New Year. A matchup with No. 4 Riverside Poly looms in mid-January.

6. Riverside Arlington (4-1-2) – The Lions won three of four matches at the Tilson Classic, though none of which was against ranked competition. Coach Kevin Watson’s side doesn’t play again until 2011.

7. Temecula Chaparral (3-3-3) — The Pumas had trouble linking passes together in a 1-0 loss Tuesday to King in a semifinal at the Tilson Classic. Coach Mark Paterson’s side doesn’t play again until 2011.

8. Riverside La Sierra (6-2-2) – The Eagles advanced from pool play at the Tilson Classic but were bumped by No. 7 Chaparral in the quarterfinals. Finishing among the top eight at one of the Inland Area’s best prep tournaments may be about right for coach Dave Eckonrod’s group.

9. Claremont (4-0-3) – The Wolfpack haven’t played since a draw with Glendora on 12/13. Coach Fred Bruce-Oliver’s side enters the Upland Tournament on Monday.
