Inland Area Prep Baseball Top 10

1. Yucaipa (0-0) — This may be something of a golden age for Yucaipa’s baseball program. Coach Jeff Stout’s team was a CIF-Southern Section Division 2 finalist last season, and returns eight seniors with title game experience. Senior P Kevin Davidson (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) will be the ace and is among the team’s most fearsome hitters. He was 5-0 with a 0.28 ERA and hit .423 with three HRs in 73 ABs in 2010.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 2 (27-7). LAST GAME: lost to Glendora, 10-3, in the championship game of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: at Rancho Cucamonga FRIDAY; vs. La Verne Damien SATURDAY.

2. Corona Centennial (0-0) — Senior INF/OF/P Daniel Arrelano is the center piece of coach Tim Kleveno’s team this season. Arrelano compiled a 9-3 record with 67 Ks in 76.2 innings, and also hit .427 with a team-high 12 HRs and 36 RBI in ’10. He’s the early front-runner for Inland Area Player of the Year.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 6 (18-10-1 overall). LAST GAME: lost to Orange El Modena, 6-3, in the first round of the 2010 CIF-Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: vs. Orange FRIDAY; at Tustin SATURDAY.

3. Redlands East Valley (0-0) — The Wildcats, behind the worldly talents of Griffin Murphy and Aaron Beckley, were the Inland Area’s top team in ’10. But this is a new season, and coach Jim Cordes’ team will have its chances against ’11 preseason No. 1 Yucaipa — 5/3 and 5/7.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 1 (24-6). LAST GAME: lost to La Verne Damien, 6-2, in the second round of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: at Menifee Paloma Valley FRIDAY; at Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos SATURDAY.

4. Riverside Poly (0-0) — It’s a credit to coach Leon Baham that the Bears advanced to the second round of the ’10 playoffs with such a young team. Team leaders Chris Rabago, Daniel Berg and Taylor Rappaport are seniors now, and will carry the bulk of the responsibility for maintaining the program’s high standards.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 3 (15-13). LAST GAME: lost to Lakewood, 5-4, in the second round of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: at Chino Tournament FRIDAY-SATURDAY.

5. Corona Santiago (0-0) — The core of coach Ty De Trinidad’s team has been together since Little League, and now they’re all seniors: Matt Bailey, Adam Brunette, Chris and Kyle Ferret, Brady Macias and Steven Pallares were all on the Corona National LL team that would the Little League West Region four years ago.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 8 (18-9). LAST GAME: lost to Placentia El Dorado, 8-4, in the second round of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: vs. Huntington Beach FRIDAY; at Anaheim Tesoro SATURDAY.

6. Temecula Great Oak (0-0) — The Wolfpack are deep and talented and could rise even further on the backs on the best team in the school’s eight seasons. Coach Eric Morton’s team will figure on production from 11 seniors — including SS Brad Salgado (6-1, 180) — as well as junior INF/P Austin Bailey (5-11, 155) and sophomore OF Angelo Lingos (5-11, 160) this season.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 7 (20-8). LAST GAME: lost to San Juan Capistrano JSerra, 5-2, in the first round of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: vs. Carlsbad SATURDAY.

7. Upland (0-0) — The Highlanders are rebuilding in the wake of one of the finest team’s the school has ever produced. This year’s squad will be led by big-hitting junior 3B Daniel Robertson (6-1, 180), who hit .380 with 11 2Bs and 33 RBI in 71 ABs last season.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 5. LAST GAME: lost to Placentia Valencia, 11-7, in the second round of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: vs. Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos TUESDAY; vs. Ontario Chaffey (DH) FRIDAY.

8. Norco (0-0) — The Cougars struggled to a 4-10 record in the Big VIII League last season but things are looking up for coach Gary Parcell; senior INF/C/OF Drake Zarate (6-1, 185) appears ready for a breakout year.
FINAL 2010 RANK: Not Ranked (11-14). LAST GAME: lost to No. 1 Corona Centennial, 9-1, on 5/12/10.
SCHEDULED: vs. Eastvale Roosevelt (DH), 3/17.

9. Woodcrest Christian (0-0) — Seven seniors return from the Royals’ 2010 CIF-SS Division 5 championship season. Key among them are P/OF Caleb Dirks (6-3, 220) and P/INF Trevor Oaks (6-3, 205). Dirks hit .425 with 21 RBI in 80 ABs; Oaks was 2-0 with a 2.62 ERA and 20 Ks in 21.1 innings last season.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 4 (27-1). LAST GAME: defeated Temecula Linfield Christian, 14-0, in the championship game of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: vs. San Bernardino Pacific FRIDAY.

10. Riverside Arlington (0-0) — This may be about as bad as it ever gets for Gary Rungo, who has only five seniors this season and will count on productions from P/INF Andy Gonzalez and OF Robert Rocha if the Lions are to qualify for CIF playoffs for the umpteenth consecutive season.
FINAL 2010 RANK: No. 9 (21-9). LAST GAME: lost to No. 7 Upland, 10-1, in the first round of the 2010 CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
THIS WEEK: vs. Placentia Valencia on FRIDAY; at Trabuco Hills SATURDAY.

JUST MISSED: Hemet (20-9), San Bernardino San Gorgonio (24-5), Moreno Valley Canyon Springs (24-5).
