Inland Area Prep Baseball Top 10

1. Riverside North (8-0) — Everything seems to be clicking for Coach Steve Madril and the Huskies, who are outscoring opponents 66-27 this season. Their late-inning at-bats have been especially productive, plating five runs in the seventh inning to beat Corona on March 14, and four runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to defeat Centennial on March 16.

2. Redlands (11-1) — The Terriers practically bombed their way to the championship of the Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic HS Tournament, outscoring opponents 66-11 along the way. Senior INF Brian Ruhm (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) had two doubles and three RBI in a 10-3 victory over Inland Area No. _ Yucaipa in the semifinals.

3. Redlands East Valley (7-4) — The Wildcats traveled to Scottsdale (Ariz.), and probably got one of those cliche’ “All I got…” t-shirts for their trouble. Coach James Cordes’ team lost 3 of 5 games, but did salvage an 11-0 victory in their final game.

4. Yucaipa (6-4) — The Thunderbirds started thieir league season a little before their CBL mates, losing to Inland Area No. 2 Redlands in the semifinals of a tournament in Tucson (Ariz.) last week. While not technically a sanctioned league contest, was it a sign of things to come?

5. Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon (6-1) — The Titans continue their strong play into defense of their Sunbelt League title, outscoring opponents 16-4 thus far. Senior P Sam Strech (6-foot, 170 pounds) struck out seven but allowed an unearned run in hurling a no-hitter vs. Perris last week.

6. Chino (7-1) — The Cowboys have victories over some pretty good teams (No. 9 Woodcrest Christian, Rancho Cucamonga Etiwanda) and have outscored all opponents 43-11 this season. Coach Bob Sheehan must be doing something right.

7. Vista Murrieta (4-4) — The Broncos got off on the right hoof in Southwestern League play, beating rival Temecula Chaparral last week behind a one-run, six-strikeout performance from 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior SP Tyler Russell.

8. San Bernardino San Gorgonio (7-2) — The Spartans lost tonight to Arcadia in their first game at the Rancho Cucamonga Tournament. Senior OF Brandon Charles (5-foot-9, 160 pounds) had two of his team’s three hits in the loss, their first since Feb. 25.
