Prep Preview: Inland Valley League

The Inland Valley League is home to the 2011 CIF-Southern Section Central Division champions. It’s also the league most effected by all the off-season shuffling.

Moreno Valley Rancho Verde finally got over the hump, going 13-0 before defeating Palm Springs in the division title game. Coach Pete Duffy will lean on seniors Demorea Stringfellow and Poasi Moala, both early commits to the Univ. of Washington.

Riverside North (10-2) finished second in the Big VIII in 2011, but lost in the 2nd Round to eventual champ Vista Murrieta. Coach Mark Parades will gladly take the step down to the IVL, especially in what looks to be a down year for the Huskies offense.

Riverside Arlington (5-6) will have a hard time keeping pace with the high-octane offenses at Rancho Verde and North, but should run the ball effectively and play enough defense to retain a playoff spot.

Valley View (7-4) had a solid season led by since-graduated Micheal Harrison, the IVL’s best back in 2011. The Eagles still return 11 seniors on the offensive and defensive lines, giving athletic junior QB Abraham Nuno time and confidence.

Riverside Poly (4-6) jumps to the IVL with North but with about half as many impact players. Senior QB Nicholas Yocum (6-foot, 165) takes over for three-year starter Steven Hamm, who probably would have played in at least one playoff game had the Bears moved to the IVL sooner.

Vista del Lago (1-9) and Canyon Springs (0-10) will both likely improve, but not dramatically enough to make a difference.
