Inland Area Prep Football Top 10

FOLLOWING WEEK ZERO

1. Vista Murrieta (0-0) — Is QB Nick Stevens (6-4, 185) the best in the Inland Area? FOMB has heard the argument, and cannot refute that Stevens is the championship QB. And until someone else is the championship QB…
THIS SEASON: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Southwestern League. LAST SEASON 9-5 overall, 5-0 Southwestern League.
LAST RANKED: No. 1.
LAST GAME: d. No. 2 Corona Centennial 31-28 in the CIF-Southern Section Inland Division championship game on Friday, Dec. 9.
WEEK ONE: vs. Highlands Ranch (Colo.) ThunderRanch on FRIDAY.

2. Corona Centennial — It’s unusual, but there hasn’t been a whole lot said about Centennial during the off-season. Hmm. That’s probably a good thing for Coach Matt Logan.
THIS SEASON: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big VIII League. LAST SEASON: 12-2 overall, 7-0 Big VIII League.
LAST RANKED: No. 2.
LAST GAME: lost 31-28 to No. 1 Vista Murrieta in the CIF-SS Inland Division championship game on Friday, Dec. 9.
WEEK ONE: vs. Ventura St. Bonaventure at Moorpark College on FRIDAY.

3. Upland (1-0) — Check it. It’s “The ‘U'” now. Not the Scots. Not the Highlanders. Just like the Univ. of Miami. Is that really the sort of sensationally illegal program a quality coach like Tim Salter would want to emulate? Is the name change out of his hands?
THIS SEASON: 1-0 overall, 0-0 Baseline League. LAST SEASON: 12-1 overall, 5-0 Baseline League.
LAST RANKED: No. 4.
LAST GAME: def. Pasadena Muir 34-6 in a non-league game on Aug. 24.
WEEK ONE: vs. Windsor on SATURDAY.

4. Menifee Heritage (1-0) — Senior WR/CB/KR Darius Allensworth (6-foot, 180 pounds) scored one of his two TDs on a 95-yard kickoff return as the Patriots did their part to set up a huge Week 1 game vs. No. 10 MoVal Rancho Verde. Too bad the Mustangs couldn’t hold up their end of the deal.
THIS SEASON: 1-0 overall, 0-0 Sunbelt League. LAST SEASON: 12-2 overall, 5-0 Sunbelt League.
LAST RANKED: No. 5.
LAST GAME: def. San Jacinto 32-6 in a non-league game on Friday, Aug. 24.
WEEK ONE: at No. 10 Moreno Valley Rancho Verde on FRIDAY.

5. Rancho Cucamonga (1-0) — Exceeded expectations in season opener, completely controlling then-No. 10 Redlands in a three-score victory. Coach Nick Baiz needs to bottle this energy, though. The Cougars have some big games coming up.
THIS SEASON 1-0 overall, 0-0 Baseline League. LAST SEASON: 11-2 overall, 4-1 Baseline League.
LAST RANKED: No. 9.
LAST GAME: def. Redlands 40-17 in a non-league game on Friday, Aug. 24.
WEEK ONE: vs. Anaheim Servite at Oontario Colony HS on SATURDAY.

6. Fontana Summit (1-0) — Handled every bit of adversity with class and style, and by throttling a strong Etiwanda team by 32 points in Week 0. The SkyHawks have now won 14 consecutive games.
THIS SEASON: 1-0 overall, 0-0 Sunkist League. LAST SEASON: 13-1 overall, 5-0 Sunkist League.
LAST RANKED: No. 8.
LAST GAME: d. Rancho Cucamonga Etiwanda 38-6 in a non-league game on Friday, Aug. 24.
WEEK ONE: vs. Redlands at Fontana Miller HS on THURSDAY, Aug. 30.

7. Redlands East Valley (0-0) — Coach Kurt Bruich takes his team to Compton, where the Wildcats will play Dominguez, which lost by 50 points (57-7) in Week 0.
THIS SEASON: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Citrus Belt League. LAST SEASON: 11-1 overall, 5-0 Citrus Belt League.
LAST RANKED: No. 7.
LAST GAME: lost 9-6 to No. 9 Rancho Cucamonga in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK ONE: at Compton Dominguez on FRIDAY.

8. Riverside North (0-0) — Are you ready for a-whole-new-lower-level-of football?! Expectations cannot help but be lowered in the drop to Inland Valley League. We’ll see how much lower.
THIS SEASON: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Inland Valley League. LAST SEASON: 10-2 overall, 6-1 Big VIII League.
LAST RANKED: No. 6.
LAST GAME: lost 58-14 to No. 1 Vista Murrieta in a CIF-SS Inland Division quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 25.
WEEK ONE: at Colton on FRIDAY.

9. Elsinore (1-0) — Coach Tony Peralta always fields a good team, but no one expected this. A come-from-behind 46-42 victory over then-No. 3 MoVal Rancho Verde? Almost unbelievable.
THIS SEASON: 1-0 overall, 0-0 Sunbelt League. LAST SEASON: 8-4 overall, 3-2 Sunbelt League.
LAST RANKED: Not Ranked.
LAST GAME: def. No. 10 MoVal Rancho Verde 46-42 in a non-league game on Friday, Aug. 24.
WEEK ONE: vs. Chula Vista Otay Ranch on FRIDAY.

10. Moreno Valley Rancho Verde (0-1) — Is this more of a reloading/rebuilding season for the Mustangs than, say, a run at consecutive titles? A couple of really talented seniors could tarnish their legacies if losses like the one to Elsinore in Week 0 ever happen again.
THIS SEASON: 0-1 overall, 0-0 Inland Valley League. LAST SEASON: 14-0 overall, 7-0 Inland Valley League.
LAST RANKED: No. 3.
LAST GAME: lost 46-42 to No. 9 Elsinore in a non-league game on Friday, Aug. 24.

DROPPED OUT: Redlands (0-1).

JUST MISSED: Palm Springs (1-0), Norco (0-0), Murrieta Mesa (1-0).
