Prep Preview: Temecula Vly at Paloma Vly

I’m covering the Temecula Valley-Menifee Paloma Valley varsity football game tonight for The Press-Enterprise and HSGametime.com. The best part of this assignment will be judging wether or not Paloma Valley — undefeated in 2012 — is for real.

THE LOW DOWN:
It’s Week 4. Most teams are starting to catch their second winds. Others have not. Which team will be physically AND mentally prepared to win tonight?

The Golden Bears (1-2 overall) were pummeled by Elsinore last week, and don’t seem to have much momentum going forward. Senior All-CIF OL/DL Addison Pulsipher could be among the lone bright spots for Coach Paul McGowan in 2012. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound Pulsipher is committed to BYU, and has helped his team average more than 270 rushing yards per game. Seniors Ryan Smith and Brenden Marchand have formed a solid RB duo, and QB Kyle Plantier is completing better than 53 percent of his pass attempts.

The Wildcats (4-0 overall) are averaging exactly 50 points per game (200 through four games) and have allowed just 29. What ever Coach Bert Esposito is putting in the water this season is working! Case in point: QB Brent Boehm. Dude is off to a blazing start, having competed 41 of 73 pass attempts for nine TDs. Oh, and then there’s RB David Solis, one of the Inland Area’s statistical monsters. This wrecking ball runs for more than 10 yards on every carry as the team racks up nealy 300 rushing yards per game.

THE KEY PLAYERS:
Temecula Valley — QB: Kyle Plantier, Jr. (6-foot-2, 190 pounds); RB: Ryan Smith, Sr. (5-8, 156); Brendon Marchand, Sr. (5-9, 170); WR: Derrick Hooks, Jr. (6-2, 160); Brock Dudley, Sr. (5-9, 160); Andre Armstrong, Sr. (5-11, 175); TE: ZGriffin Doran, Soph. (5-11, 180); OL/DL: Addison Pulsipher, Sr. (6-6, 260); Lance Meinhardt, Sr. (6-6, 285); LB: Jake D’Andrea, Sr. (5-8, 205); Sean Lennert, Sr. (5-9, 200); DB: Connor O’Hara, Jr. (5-10, 150); Bailey Gallagher, Jr. (5-11, 165); K: Leo Mendez, Sr. (5-9, 150).

Paloma Valley — QB: Brent Boehm, Jr. (5-foot-11, 200 pounds); RB: David Solis, Sr. (5-10, 180); WR: Ray Golden, Sr. (5-11, 160); Marcus Page, Sr. (5-9, 160); R.J. Benz, Jr. (6-foot, 200); OL/DL: Charlie Wallace, Sr. (5-7, 185); Coakley Rathbun, Sr. (6-foot, 220); Austin Ganino, Sr. (6-3, 300); DL: Matt Orzech, Sr. (6-4, 220); LB: Cody Lewis, Sr. (5-9, 180); Richard Krottmayer, Sr. (5-9, 200); DB: Felix Bogroff, Jr. (5-8, 160); Lemuel Maynor, Sr. (5-11, 160); Jacques Hicks (6-foot, 170); K: Derek Davis, Soph. (6-foot, 145).

THE DIFFERENCE:
Can Paloma Valley push the line of scrimmage against Temecula Valley? Have such lopsided victories prepared the Wildcats for a stout Inland Division opponent? Most everyone seems to thing so.
THE FINAL SCORE: Paloma Valley 37, Temecula Valley 28
