Prep Preview: Rubidoux at Vista del Lago
I’m covering the Rubidoux-Moreno Valley Vista del Lago varsity football game tonight, Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, for The Press-Enterprise and PE.com.
The best part of getting this assignment will be getting a look at Terell Lee, another of the Inland area’s top running backs.
THE LOW DOWN:
The Falcons (3-3 overall, 1-0 Mountain Valley) stopped San Bernardino and the Cardinals’ explosive rushing attack last week, and Coach Jason McMains’ defense will need to cook up the same recipe this week against another big-time yard-eater.
The Ravens (6-0 overall, 1-0 Mountain Valley) have surprised even themselves with their run of success and good luck. Coach Art Giovannini has called on his rushing attack more 41 times through six games, and they’ve responded with 2,100 yards thus far.
THE KEY PLAYERS:
Rubidoux — QB Aaron McMains (Jr., 6-foot-2, 200 pounds); RB/DB Roosevelt Carroll (Jr., 5-6, 150); LB/RB Shaylan Lewis (Sr., 5-10, 200); DB/WR Salvador Pimentel (Sr. 5-8, 162); OL/DL Gabriel Torres (Sr., 63, 210); OL/DL/TE Damien Brumitt (Jr., 5-9, 265).
Vista del Lago — QB Brian Cisneros (Sr., 5-foot-9, 165 pounds); TB Terell Lee (Sr., 6-foot, 215); OLB/WR Malik Reid (Sr., 5-11, 155); RG Mike Williams (Sr., 6-4, 320); RB/DB Kirtius Crosby (Sr., 5-4, 150); CB Deandre Kite (Sr., 5-8, 153); LT Alexis Manriquez (Jr., 6-6, 250).
THE DIFFERENCE:
Rubidoux’s defense. If the Falcons can control the line of scrimmage then they have a chance. If not, Lee — rumbling behind a massive offensive line — is going to leave his footprints all over them.
THE FINAL SCORE: Vista del Lago 28, Rubidoux 17
