Prep Preview: Banning at Rubidoux

I’m covering the Banning-Rubidoux varsity football game tonight, Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, for The Press-Enterprise and PE.com.

The best part of this assignment is, well, that I get to cover a Mountain Valley League game for the first time since previewing the league prior to this season for The Press-Enterprise. Just so has it that this one has major playoff implications for both teams.

banningLOGOTHE LOW DOWN:
The Broncos (2-7 overall, 1-3 Mountain Valley) are all-but-out of the playoffs for the first time in three seasons under John Stockham, going from 11-2 in 2012 to 4-7 last season and now this. There’s hardly a bright side looming; they’ve scored more than 20 points just twice this season and are coming off a 40-point loss to MoVal Vista del Lago.

The Falcons (4-5, 2-2) control their own destiny. A win and they’re in the CIF-Southern Section Eastern Division playoffs. A loss and a win by San Bernardino — who plays lowly Pacific — and they’re out. Coach Jason McMains likes to keep things close to the chest but it’s no secret this team has struggled to generate offense. The Falcons are minus-29 overall.
