BIG OFF-SEASON STORIES
1. Dennis Brown’s departure from Riverside Poly — Rumors swirled after the Bears’ loss in the CIF-Southern Section Inland Division title game, then the hammer dropped. Brown was retiring, or resigning. Why? Now we know. He’s Riverside King’s new athletic director.
2. Legend of Javon McKinley continues to grow — The most recruited receiver on the West Coast made shiny at off-season camps and 7-on-7s, giving regional sports writers a look at the crown jewel of whatever class and whatever school he chooses.
3. Jason McMain’s resignation from Rubidoux — The Falcons were far better than they had any right to be during McMain’s six-year tenure, which ended with his fourth playoff team during that time. Purportedly, he’d had enough after a number of players left the team.
4. Pat McCarthy to run Riverside King’s defense — It was a tough final few seasons for Coach Mac at Riverside Arlington. Zero doubt that a new look at a new school will do wonders.
AND MORE: Riverside La Sierra starts again — Two-year coach Jeff Roney didn’t seem like a long-term solution, but who is these days? Garry Hedlund steps in.
Student-athletes breaking news on Twitter — Perhaps more than ever before, players from all over the Inland area have taken to Twitter this summer to update their recruitment, their visits and their commitments, and in the process made it a contest to garner the most re-tweets.
