Take a closer look at Corona Santiago senior Jacob Hennie and you’ll see that despite his first 300-yard passing game he’ll remain underrated.

Hennie plays in the shadow of some good-to-great Big VIII League QBs this season, not to mention a certain recent graduate.

At 5-foot-11, 183-pounds, Hennie has completed 80 of his 131 pass attempts for more than 1,000 yards as the Sharks have rebounded from an 0-3 start to win consecutives games entering league play.

A decent turnaround not many people scanning Big VIII League box scores would notice after checking stats for Norco’s Victor Viramontes and Corona Centennial’s Anthony Catalano.

We caught up to Hennie after he tossed for a career-high 328 yards and three TDs in a 56-34 victory over Temecula Chaparral on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015.

FOMB: Did you think the offense was going to be so explosive tonight?
Hennie: “Offense, I knew we were going to keep driving, keep making plays. Defense, I knew they’d get us a stop and shut them down. I knew we were going to have each other’s back, and it just worked out great tonight.”

FOMB: What’s the first home win of the season mean for this team?
JH: “It gives us a lot of fan support. First home game, it was kind of tough, but we came back from that and we rallied, and now we’re going to have a lot more fan support.”

FOMB: Crowd was up for this game. Think they needed this win as much as you guys?
JH: “It’ll hype the team up more, and we’ll by hyped up for the rest of the season. It was a great team win. Defense played great. Offense played great, and we’re just going to continue.”

Hennie forever stands as the QB who replaced Blake Barnett — Santiago’s golden-armed alum now at Alabama — and has just five more weeks to prove he, too, can lead his team to the postseason.
