Prep Preview: Templeton @ Woodcrest Chr.

I’m covering the Templeton-Riverside Woodcrest Christian CIF-Southern Section Division 3A Semifinal Round game tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, for The Press-Enterprise, pe.com & @PEcom_preps.

The best part of this assignment is it’s a rematch of a 3A quarterfinal final from last year, which Woodcrest Christian won, 3-0, at Templeton.

TempletonLOGOTHE LOW DOWN:
The Eagles (27-7 overall) are a senior-heavy team which went unbeaten (10-0) in the Los Padres League and only lost two away matches all season. (Their five other losses were at neutral venues.) In fact, they have not lost a game since Oct. 20 at Morro Bay (an eventual 3-1 win), and are currently riding a streak of seven consecutive 3-0 wins. Seniors Lauren Ralston and Emily Burns are both above 200 kills on the year, and senior OH Katie Bolts has been right there alongside with 155 kills. Senior L Sarah Bolts leads the team with 212 digs.

WoodcrestChrLOGOThe Royals (22-5 overall), a Division 3A finalist from a year ago, are just one step away from returning to the championship match. Coach Teri James’ group enters as the division’s top-ranked team on a 20-match winning streak. They dominated Ambassador League play, dropping just eight games, and posted a 14-0 record for the first time in school history. Junior OH Tesa Oaks is a legitimate force on the floor and at the net, and is among CIF leaders with 547 kills. She’s also has been the team’s leader in blocks (36) and aces (68), and is second on the team with 234 digs. Senior L Anna Stevenson leads the team with 484 digs.

THE DIFFERENCE:
Woodcrest Christian’s Tesa Oaks will be the dominant player on the court. Will Templeton’s experience and desire be enough to overcome the challenge she presents?
