Prep Preview: Bloomington @ Colton
I’m covering the Bloomington-Colton varsity girls soccer game tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, for The Press-Enteprise, pe.com & @PEcom_preps.
The best part of this assignment is the chance to see if Bloomington can stay unbeaten through its last difficult Sunkist League game this season.
THE LOW DOWN:
Bloomington (15-0-1 overall, 6-0-1 Sunkist League) have been unbeaten all season, but dropped points for the first time in a 1-1 tie at Fontana Summit on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The Bruins have bounced back with back-to-back victories — including a 2-1 win over Summit on Monday — and but need three more wins to surpass their total from 2013 and all three plus a playoff victory to equal the program’s highest total (19 in ’10) the last eight years. Senior forward Taylor Veloz is an all-league player and can be a difference maker.
Colton (12-4-3 overall, 4-2-0 Sunkist League) has jumped into contention this season with output coming from all levels. Junior Rosa Castaneda leads the Yellowjackets with 10 goals and six assists, while the team has received nine goals from two freshman — Rosalyn Cerda and Ashley Meza — as the team as run to Plus-20 overall. Now they’re coming off an 8-0 victory over Fontana last week and perhaps the best shot of any team to knock Bloomington off its pedestal.
