Prep Preview: Riverside vs. San Bernardino
I’m covering the Riverside County vs. San Bernardino boys varsity All-Star Game tonight, Friday, March 18, 2016, at Riverside Arlington High School.
The best part of this assignment is I’ll also be providing color commentary alongside Pep Fernandez on the @Inland_Sports Show’s YouTube page.
THE LOW DOWN:
Riverside County will have one of its all-time best goalkeepers, Lake Elsinore Lakeside’s Tyler Garrard, in this game for 80 minutes. He’s multiple times all-CIF, and his numbers speak for themselves. Desert Mirage, which went 23-0 in winning the CIF-SS Division 7 title, is represented by two players on this team. Three other schools (Riverside Arlington, MoVal Rancho Verde and MoVal Valley View) also are represented by two players, while 13 other schools sent one player each. The team is coached by Arlington head coach Kevin Watson.
San Bernardino County may have the Inland Area’s best player in Indian Springs defender Titus Nickson. The Coyotes’ center back led his team to its first San Gorgonio Shootout tournament victory last year before leading the program to its first-ever playoff appearance this season. Yucaipa and San Gorgonio placed four players apiece on this team, while Fontana will have three representatives. The team is coached by San Bernardino San Gorgonio coach Adrian Villalobos.
