Prep Preview: Elsinore at Arlington

I’m covering the Elsinore-Riverside Arlington varsity football game tonight, Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, for The Press-Enterprise and @HSGametime.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Riverside Ramona High School.

elsinorefblogoBOTH TEAMS…
Elsinore (3-0 overall) are off to a running start, averaging more than 32 points per game. A big part of that has been the Tigers offensive line while the other part has been Anthony Reyes. The 6-foot-1 senior running back is Top-5 in the Inland Area in rushing through this early part of the season, totaling 498 yards and eight touchdowns on just 39 carries. To wit: Reyes leads all local RBs with a 12.8 yards-per-carry average. The defense has been good, too, to start the year, posting a shutout vs. Temecula Valley in Week 1 while allowing about 10 points per game overall.
HEAD COACH: Tony Peralta

ArlingtonLOGORiverside Arlington (2-1 overall) has tried to maintain offensive balance while putting its defense in positions to succeed. The Lions were unable to do that in a 28-27 Week 0 loss to Perris, but rebounded with a big win over Riverside La Sierra in Week 1 before hanging on to beat Temescal Canyon, 21-14, last week. The junior offensive tandem of QB Cameron Abts and Jamon McGlory may get the headlines but the Lions have some serious pieces on defense, starting with 6-foot-5, 250-pound junior lineman Jacob Tuufuli and 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker Sorryn Khneiser.
HEAD COACH: Rich Lunsford

Elsinore — QB/OLB Tim Jakell, Jr. (6-foot-1, 185 pounds); RB/CB Anthony Reyes, Sr. (6-1, 175); RB/MLB Brandon Payne, Sr. (5-9, 180); RB/OLB Aiden Portillo, Jr. (5-7, 185); OLB/RB Alston Ulmer, Jr. (5-11, 173); WR/FS Hunter Patterson, Sr. (na); TE/MLB Kevin Swanson, Jr. (6-1, 215); G/MLB Gabe Gomez, Sr. (na); K Alex Ouellette, Sr. (na)

Riverside Arlington — QB Cameron Abts, Jr. (6-foot-1, 145 pounds); WR/DB Zack Barnett, Sr. (5-11, 165); WR/DB Abraham Gutierrez, Sr. (5-9, 170); TE/LB Sorryn Khneiser, Sr. (6-2, 225); WR Diego Zubiate, Jr. (5-7, 130); OL/DL Jacob Tuufuli, Jr. (6-5, 250); DL Louie Sistos, Jr. (5-7, 210); DB Nate Guerrero, Jr. (5-8, 140); K Jihad Abuhijleh, Jr. (5-7, 160)

A grinding game could hinge on one or two big plays likely be made on the offensive line. Which offensive line, though?

Arlington 26, Elsinore 24
