GAME OF THE WEEK: Brea Olinda vs. Norte Vista
THE DETAILS:
Brea Olinda vs. Norte Vista
CIF-Southern Section – Week 12
Division 9 Playoffs – Quarterfinals
At Riverside (Calif.) Norte Vista HS
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 9
BREA OLINDA (6-5 overall, 2-1 North Hills) blasted No. 2-seeded Heritage Christian, 38-9, in the first round and has won three of its last four heading into the quarterfinals. The Wildcats rely on senior QB Jacob Moon spreading the ball around to move the chains on offense, while junior DE Kion Marshall (15.5 TFLs) and a strong defensive front seven keeps teams out of the end zone and grounds opposing running backs to mush.
HEAD COACH: Robb Perrance
ROSTER – QB: Jacob Moon, Sr. (5-foot-11, 160 pounds); RB: Nathan Wyse, Sr. (5-10, 170); RB: Christian Steward, Jr. (5-9, 165); SB: Jordan Alcala, Sr. (5-10, 175); WR: Marlow Peres, Jr. (5-11, 160); Kyle O’Brien, Soph. (6-foot, 160); OL: Jim Yang, Sr. (6-3, 220); ; DE: Kion Marshall, Jr. (6-foot, 235); LB: Xavier Tellez, Jr. (5-10, 185); DB: Christian Thongphrachanh, Sr. (6-2, 185)
NORTE VISTA (9-2 overall, 4-1 River Valley League) had to chance its plan this season after last year’s leading rusher, Chris Melesio, went down with a torn meniscus. In his place senior RB/S Miron Hazem and freshman RB Eddie Allain have picked up the slack and both have totaled more than 1,000 rushing yards this season. To wit: Allain went for more than 170 yards and four TDs and Hazem had 180 yards and two TDs in a 54-24 victory over Montebello last week, and senior QB Julian Corey continues to do an underrated job of running the offense and keeping opposition defenses off balance with the occasional play-action pass completion.
HEAD COACH: Ken Batdorf
