Murrieta Valley senior RB Corie Johnson has been selected InlandFieldhouse.com’s Player of the Week after his Week 1 performance in a 59-14 victory over Menifee Paloma Valley in a nonleague game on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019.

Johnson rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries as the Nighthawks (1-0 overall) opened their season with an offensive showcase against one of the Ivy League’s perennial playoff contenders.

The 5-foot-8, 180-pound running back averaged 9.9 yards per carry in his first start as the Nighthawks’ No. 1 option out of the backfield.

Johnson, who twice topped 100 yards in a single game last season, had 564 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 108 carries as a junior.
