GAME OF THE WEEK: Santiago at Colony

THE DETAILS:
Corona Santiago vs. Ontario Colony
CIF-Southern Section – Week 1
At Ontario (Calif.) Colony High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 27

CORONA SANTIAGO (0-1 overall, 0-0 Big VIII League) came out throwing in Week 0 and went round-for-round with Menifee Heritage before losing an 11-TD thriller, 42-35. Junior QB Dominic Tubbs has taken a step and has command of the Sharks offense, passing for 400-plus yards and five TDs in his season debut. Not to go unnoticed, junior wideout Bryce Parker’s 12 catches for 296 yards and four TDs in Week 1. That’s a crazy stat line.
HEAD COACH: Scott Morrison
ROSTER – QB: Dominic Tubbs, Jr. (6-foot-4, 210 pounds); RB/OLB: Humberto Melendrez, Sr. (5-7, 180); WR/CB Bryce Parker, Jr. (5-10 165); WR/DB: Austin Kurtz, Soph. (na); OL: Blaine Ramirez, Sr. (6-foot, 212); DT: Anthony Sedberry, Sr. (5-11, 195); OLB/FS: Christian Younan, Sr. (5-9, 158); CB/SS: Gerald Sims, Jr. (na); K: Chase Moy, Jr. (na)

ONTARIO COLONY (0-0 overall, 0-0 Citrus 4 League) was supposed to play Perris Citrus Hill in Week 0 but that was a no-go, so the Titans are kicking off the fall at home this week. The team ended the spring season on a high note against Los Osos, but were absolutely punished in two games against Etiwanda. Senior QB Will Yates didn’t play in the spring but will get the start and a chance to lead the offense in Game 1.
HEAD COACH: Brian Zavala
ROSTER – QB: Will Yates, Sr. (6-foot-1, 185 pounds); RB/LB: Jamari Johnson, Sr. (5-10, 175); RB/DB: Bryce Strong, Sr. (5-9, 160); WR/DB: A.J. Jones, Sr. (6-4, 200); OL: Jose Melendez, Sr. (6-7, 250); OL/DL: Damari Henderson, Jr. (6-3, 270); DL: Filitusa Togiasu, Soph. (6-1, 280); CB: Xavier Black, Sr. (5-10, 165); K: Jose Valdez, Sr. (5-7, 150)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Santiago was one dimensional on offense in Week 0, and now that passing attack will be under pressure this week so Tubbs may be in for a tough night. On the other side, if Colony’s new QB can get going early and put the ball in the hands of all those weapons this will be a fun game.

THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Santiago 34, Colony 28

  1. Blaine Ramirez says:

Thank you so much for putting the “one dimensional on offense” remark in this excerpt. We wanted as much negative media coverage about us just so we can prove everyone wrong. Other than that, thank you for writing an article about us we truly appreciated it.
