GAME OF THE WEEK: Riverside Poly at Riverside King

THE DETAILS:
Riverside Poly vs. Riverside King
CIF-Southern Section – Week 3
At Riverside (Calif.) USD Stadium at Ramona High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 11

RIVERSIDE POLY (2-0 overall, 0-0 Inland League) haven’t played since Week 1 when the Bears put up 21 points in third quarter to beat Arlington. Practice quality and health will play a big factor for this team, which will need to get back up to game speed quickly against its improving cross-town rival. Can junior QB Michael Luna win a big game against a Big VIII League opponent?
HEAD COACH: John Rice
ROSTER – QB: Michael Luna, Jr. (6-foot-1, 190 pounds); RB: Isreal Morales, Soph. (5-8, 170); FB: Angel Sanchez, Sr. (5-11, 215); WR: Bailey Brown, Sr. (5-10, 170); TE/DE: Ethan Jackson, Jr. (6-foot, 205); OL: Erik Huerta, Jr. (6-3, 285); DE: John Rice, Jr. (6-2, 200); MLB: Michael Burke, Sr. (5-10, 180); CB: Isaac Moore, Sr. (5-9, 175); K/P: Elishua Degeneffe, Jr. (5-7, 150)

RIVERSIDE KING (1-1 overall, 0-0 Big VIII League) got its first win under new coach Jason McMains and it was a big one – 44-20 over Redlands East Valley last week. It looks like freshman QB Noah Haros is the guy, and his 65-percent completion rate so far and three TDs vs. REV make that decision look like a smart one. Senior MLB Chase Shackleford in the center of the defense and in on nearly every play.
HEAD COACH: Jason McMains
ROSTER – QB: Noah Haros, Fr. (5-foot-10, 180 pounds); RB: Noah Neal, Jr. (5-9, 185); WR/DB: Elijah Smiley-Flores, Jr., (6-1, 160); WR/DB: Zypher Schnakenberg, Jr. (6-foot, 170); OL: Jalen Morris, Jr. (5-10, 280); DL: Matthew Tindall, Sr. (5-11, 190); MLB: Chase Shackleford, Sr. (5-11, 175); CB: Deyton Ford, Jr. (5-11, 175); K/P: Evan Milstead, Sr. (5-10, 175)

THE DIFFERENCE:
There are still a lot of unknowns with both teams – and some interesting similarities and contradictions – and so it may come down to takeaways, penalties and field position. Though we really like that McMains has handed the offense to a freshman.

THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Riverside King 24, Riverside Poly 17
