GAME OF THE WEEK: Corona at Ramona

THE DETAILS:
Corona vs. Riverside Ramona
CIF-Southern Section – Week 5
At Riverside (Calif.) Ramona High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 24

CORONA (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big VIII League) squeaked past Vista del Lago last week, 27-26, to stay unbeaten but the margins might be as thin as its most recent score suggests. Three players are leading the way on offense for the Panthers – QB Delaney Crawford, RB Christian Butler and WR Jet Carr – yet there is not a lot of depth behind the top trio. Also, Butler doubles as the team’s middle linebacker and play caller on defense, so he’s playing practically every down.
HEAD COACH: Ron Gueringer
ROSTER – QB: #1-Delaney Crawford, Sr. (6-foot-3, 180 pounds); RB/MLB: #2-Christian Butler, Sr. (6-1, 220); RB/DB: #23-Mason Bacon, Sr. (5-10, 180); WR: #6-Jet Carr, Sr. (6-1, 190); OL: #63-Geovanny Lomas, Sr. (5-10, 270); DL: #69-Joshua Gilmour, Sr. (6-1, 243); OLB: #32-Diego Rodriguez, Jr. (5-9, 190); DB: #3-Dequan January, Sr. (6-foot, 165)

RIVERSIDE RAMONA (4-0 overall, 0-0 River Valley League) sent Riverside Poly into the atmosphere in the latest edition of the ‘Solar Series’ in Week 4, but should come back to earth some against Corona. Junior RB Beau Bruins has established himself as one of the best in the Inland Area behind the Rams’ strong offensive line, and new QB Nathan Johnson has used the running game to find some success with a tight group of receivers.
HEAD COACH: Ken Mushinskie
ROSTER – QB: #5-Nathan Johnson, Jr. (6-foot-1, 175 pounds); QB: #9-Beau Bruins, Jr. (5-10, 160); WR: #1-Jake Valenzuela, So., (5-10, 175); WR: #14-Jordan Daniels, Jr. (6-1, 195); WR: #12-Zachary Shinar, Sr. (5-10, 195); OL: #58-Samont Johnson, Sr. (6-5, 270); DL: #13-Nathan Horton, Jr. (5-11, 220); LB: #23-Dezmen Watkins, Jr. (5-8, 200); CB: #2-Nicky Chavez, Jr. (5-8, 150); K: #41-Isaac Conrado, Sr. (5-7, 160)

THE DIFFERENCE:
Ramona’s beef on both sides of the ball is impressive, but it is most effective opening holes for the agile Bruins to run through for big gains and long TD runs.

THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Ramona 28, Corona 24
