GAME OF THE WEEK: Beaumont at Cajon

THE DETAILS:
Beaumont vs. San Bernardino Cajon
CIF-Southern Section – Week 8
At San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon High School
Kickoff: 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Oct. 15
BEAUMONT (6-1 overall, 2-0 Citrus Belt League) is growling and snarling heading into this week. The Cougars are doing their best to show some jagged teeth and look dangerous and unpredictable, but they’re going to throw the football and force opponents to defend it. Sophomore Christopher Cooper leads the CIF-Southern Section in completions (155), yards (2,318) and TDs (30). Senior WR Gabriel Nunez leads CIF-SS in receptions (75) and yards (1,140). But also, junior RB Armando Cuellar can run it a little bit, too.
HEAD COACH: Jeff Steinberg
ROSTER – QB: #2-Christopher Cooper, Soph. (6-foot-1, 195 pounds); RB: #22-Armando Cuellar, Jr. (5-4, 150); RB: #26-Christian Davis, Soph. (5-11, 183); WR: #9-Gabriel Nunez, Sr., (6-foot, 165); WR: #1-Anson Kraut, Sr. (5-11, 165); WR: #4-Solomon German, Jr. (5-11, 179); OL: #68-John Exley, Sr. (6-3, 240); DL/MLB: #93-Kevin Palacios, Sr. (6-foot, 255); OLB: #36-Tayven Anderson, Sr. (6-1, 190); DB: #7-Ezekiel Valdivia, Sr. (5-11, 150); K: Caden Stines, Sr. (5-9, 165)
CAJON (7-0 overall, 2-0 Citrus League) has handled Citrus Valley and Yucaipa, so only Beaumont stands between the Cowboys and another CBL title. Confidence is high that Nick Rogers’ defense will make stops, but the offense must run the ball effectively, move the chains, drain the clock, and keep a lead to beat such a high-powered offense. Is sophomore QB Martinez Miles ready for a matchup opposite one of the region’s best gunslingers with an unbeaten record and a league title on the line?
HEAD COACH: Nick Rogers
ROSTER – QB: #4-Martinez Miles, Soph. (6-foot-1, 150 pounds); RB: #31-Freddy Fletcher, Sr. (5-6, 170); WR: #6-Ethan Powell, Sr. (6-3, 195); WR: #9-Jeyquan Smith, Jr. (5-10, 155); OL: #74-Joseph Jackson, Sr. (6-4, 260); DL: #3-Maika Esau, Sr. (6-6, 217); LB: #11-Jacob Pam, Sr. (5-11, 195); CB: #13-T.J. Hughes, Sr. (6-1, 195); K: #27-Aiden Morris, Sr. (5-11, 168)
THE DIFFERENCE:
Cajon’s ability to defend the pass 40-or-50 times over the course of 48 minutes, because it’s going to be a long night.
THE FINAL SCORE (PROJECTED):
Cajon 42, Beaumont 41
