Season Preview: Baseline League

PREP FOOTBALL 2023
BASELINE LEAGUE PREVIEW
(Records in parenthesis)
Rancho Cucamonga (9-3, 4-0) features one of Southern California’s strongest defenses on paper, but it will have to perform on the field to cover early for the offense as sophomore QB Jacob Chambers gets settled. Senior WR Jason Harris had 63 catches and more than 1,000 receiving yards last season.
Upland (9-5, 2-2) went on a run all the way to the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 title game and gave Yorba Linda all it could handle in a 9-6 loss. The memory of that game will certainly fuel senior QB Noah Sandoval, who passed for 15 TDs and more than 1,500 yards last season.
Damien (3-7, 2-2) is still looking to take that next step up and has scheduled Yorba Linda, the current CIF-SS Division 3 champion, as its Week 0 opponent. There’s something to be said for that, but there will be more to say after the game.
Etiwanda (9-6, 2-2) got the payoff it had long been looking for, winning the CIF-SS Division 5 title. The Eagles have quite a trio on offense and return one of the Inland area’s top receivers in 6-foot-3 senior Jaden Landrum.
Chino Hills (4-6, 0-4) won its first three games last season and was competitive through Week 7, then scored only one TD over the final three weeks.
