CITRUS VALLEY (4-3 overall, 2-0 Citrus Belt League) pulled a stunner over Beaumont last week, limiting the CIF-SS’s top quarterback and the Cougars’ high-flying offense to a season-low 24 points. New QB Dawson Martinez totaled 200 yards and three TDs in the win. This rivalry with Cajon isn’t going away but now the Blackhawks, who finally got a win over the Cowboys in last year’s playoffs, get to walk into the stadium as the team to beat.

CAJON (5-2 overall, 2-0 Citrus Belt League) hasn’t allowed a single point since dropping back-to-back games before entering league play. Junior QB Evan Powell has been efficient in league play, completing 28 of 42 pass attempts through the first two games, but it’s been too easy so far. The gauntlet to another CBL title starts now for the Cowboys, who should feel like they still have a lot to prove.
